PRESS STATEMENT

GOVERNOR AYO FuAYOSE, LET PEACE REIGN IN EKITI STATE NOW!g
The attention of the Centre for Rights and Grassroots Initiative (CRGI) has been drawn to an allegation circulating in the media on Monday 22nd of December, 2014 of a directive credited to Governor Ayo Fayose ordering the police to arrest majority members of the lawfully constituted Ekiti State house of Assembly for holding a plenary in Ado Ekiti, the State capital.

We condemn this alledged unconstitutional and illegal directive by a power intoxicated governor who has acquired the reputation of leading thugs to assault the temple of justice even as a governor in-waiting and getting away it because of impunity in the land.

We want to admonish the Ekiti State police command to immediately distance himself away from such brazen abuse of power and constitution by a governor in dire need of inculcating civility and decent conduct as a public officer occupying the exalted office of the governor of a state.

Because of his antecedents, the Centre for Rights and Grassroots Initiative (CRGI), like millions of Nigerians was very suspicious of Governor Ayo Fayose as the chief instigator of the crisis rocking the Ekiti State house of Assembly and our suspicion has been proved right by the Governor’s perpetuation of illegality through series of acts among several others such as the presentation of his commissioners nominee list as well as the State’s 2015 budget to an illegal sitting of 7 renegade members in violation of the constitutional provision of the presence of 2/3 of 26 members to make a legally constituted legislature. All the actions of the Governor on matters of state interest taken with the approval of his sponsored rebels in the house amounts to nullity since they are not recognized by law.

We at CRGI are hereby calling on the good people of Ekiti state in particular and Nigerians in general to hold Governor Ayo Fayose responsible for the threat to public peace, democracy and safety of lives of the majority members of the lawfully constituted Ekiti State house of Assembly.

We want to call on the Ekiti State Police Command and other security agencies to immediately put in place security measures that will enable the constitutionally recognized Ekiti State house of Assembly and its leadership to conduct legislative business for the good of the people of Ekiti State.

We also want to call on Governor Ayo Fayose, to let peace reign in Ekiti State by withdrawing state maintained thugs who have laid siege on the house of Assembly and as well call his loyal renegade members of the Ekiti State house of Assembly to order, now!

Thanks,

Yours Sincerely,

Signed,

Nelson Ekujumi,

Executive Director.
