Operations Research (OR) or Decision Science as it is otherwise called is arguably one of the most exciting areas of study. It's equally one of the most respected areas of study as it cuts across all other disciplines.

I searched this board and couldn't come up with anything worthwhile.

This field of study and its professionals are not so popular in the country right now. I'd wager though that the few that there are in the various industries are very much valued and respected.

If you are a student (grad. and undergrad.) or a professional of OR, pls let us discuss, share ideas and experience and make this thread a spring of information and encouragement for aspiring students and pros.

Let's share resources, ideas, suggestions and help one another attain success and grow a vital aspect of human resource for our society.

I'll soon be signing up for a master's degree in OR.

I'm still at a loss though on which university in the country offers the best programme for OR.

I'll like an M.Sc in Nigeria before I consider a Ph.D programme abroad

some schools call it management science, others call it operations research, while others name it decision analysis.

some schools abroad call a specialization in an aspect of OR Financial Engineering

undergrad programmes in OR are hard to come by.
most schools offer OR at the M.Sc level.

some schools have OR in the dept of economics

some have it in the school of management

others list it as an area of systems engineering

others could have it in the dept of applied maths and statistics

students and professional OR specialists are welcome

Passionately following.
I got in love with this Aspect of Mathematics when i was self- preparing for my HND program, before one of my then lecturers persuade me to purse my B.Sc Program.
OR is a great field, it has a strong ties with Mathematics and Computer Science which encompasses a wide range of problem-solving techniques and methods applied in the pursuit of improved decision making and efficiency.
Believe me, with the little knowledge i have garner then......ranging from Statistics to Optimization to Probability theory to queuing theory to game theory to graph theory, decision making, Stochastic models, just to mention a few....
I believe it's a great field to delve into, One can never regret.
Everybody needs analytics who can use their highly mathematical dexterity to make a great practical impact on real-world problems.
I would be glad to know you more.
