President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign team suffered a major setback today in Nigeria’s in the core north as commercial and private drivers refused to take campaign vehicles already painted in the PDP and Jonathan /Sambo campaign brand from Kaduna a state to Kano metropolis citing fear of attacks by citizens opposed to the President's return to office after the 2015 elections. Some PDP branded vehicles in Rivers State

Several drivers who were approached to drop off the campaign vehicles complained that Mr. Jonathan has failed the north and they could not in good conscience be seen driving vehicles with his campaign logo between the two most important cities in the north.

The drivers were offered N70,000 each but weren’t swayed to take the vehicles numbering 80 to Kano from the Kaduna government house where Vice President, Namadi Sambo and Kaduna state governor, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero had them purchased and branded for President Jonathan’s presidential campaign in Kano.

As at the time of going to press, the Presidency had intervened asking police and army drivers to move the vehicle under armed escort.

Police and Army drivers driving PDP campaign vehicles? That is as partisan as can be.

Anyway, drivers from the Nigerian Prisons Service would drive GEJ to prison soon.

There is a limit to paying for people to go against their will, money can't buy everything after-all.

PDP started the politics of religion and now it is backfiring (as I warned) because both muslims and christians are now heeding the advice of the redeem pastor "if you don't do something, something will do you" grin grin grin

PDP DID NOT START THIS POLITICS OF RELIGION!!

A certain Ahmed Sani Yerima did in 1999, with political sharia.

He is an APC stalwart.

Correct me if I am wrong.

According to obj (the then president) "political sharia will a natural death". And true, it did die a natural death due to the way and manner obj handled the situation. God bless you for bringing this up as some of your folks want us to believe that northerners hate gej because he is a southern christian. Its refreshing to see that you guys admit that obj (another southern christian) also faced challenges but he dealt with the situation and not tried to use religious sentiment to divide the nation in order to return in 2003.

Anybody who thinks "political sharia died a natural death" is naive.

Go to Kano, ask them how many "religious policemen" they have. "Political Sharia" is a wedge issue that plays a role in every election in the North.

Finally, the way Obasanjo treated "political sharia" wasn't ideal - he pretended that if he ignored it, it would go away.

It didn't and it hasn't.

That is a topic for another day.

But just remember this: 1 - 5,000 people died during the sharia riots in Kaduna in 2000. Kaduna is still a divided city today; Christians and Muslims live apart, one enduring legacy of political sharia - if in doubt, travel to Kaduna and see.

Many people in the South are so ignorant of the issues in Northern Nigeria, it isn't worthwhile even engaging with them.
