1. CRISTIANO RONALDO Portugal The year 2014 could not have started better for Cristiano Ronaldo, as he became the first Portuguese player to win a second FIFA Ballon d’Or. The top scorer in La Liga with 31 goals in 30 games, Ronaldo played a huge part in Real Madrid’s tenth UEFA Champions League triumph, finding the back of the net 17 times in the course of their campaign, a new record for the competition. 8 Likes

2. Lionel MESSI Argentina Despite the fitness problems that hampered his start to the season, Lionel Messi still managed to end the 2013/14 Spanish La Liga campaign as its second-highest scorer with 28 goals, though his contribution was not enough to secure Barcelona the title. The 26-year-old star made up for that disappointment and his club’s exit in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals by guiding Argentina to the Final of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™, where he scored four goals and collected the adidas Golden Ball. Fresh from that achievement, the four-time FIFA Ballon d’Or winner is now gunning for the Spanish league’s all-time goalscoring record. 6 Likes

3. Manuel NEUER Germany Manuel Neuer has been the undisputed No1 in goal both for reigning world champions Germany and record German titleholders Bayern Munich for several years now. He made numerous magnificent saves at the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ to play a key role in his side’s title success and was deservedly awarded the adidas Golden Glove as the tournament’s best goalkeeper. Neuer also added two further medals to his collection in 2014 after winning the league and DFB Cup double with Bayern. It is not only his breathtaking reflexes on the line that help Neuer to stand out, but also his talent on the ball and ability to participate in team moves. 3 Likes

1. Carlo ANCELOTTI Italy Carlo Ancelotti showed what he is made of by sliding into the hotseat at Real Madrid and winning the Copa del Rey and the club's eagerly awaited tenth UEFA Champions League title. These successes were made all the sweeter by the fact they were secured with respective victories over old rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. The Italian coach exceeded expectations in his first season with Los Blancos, restoring a sense of calm to the club and turning his side into a relentless winning machine spearheaded by a lethal and insatiable frontline. Ancelotti picked up this season where he left off last by landing the UEFA Super Cup, yet another piece of silverware for the Bernabeu trophy cabinet. 1 Like 1 Share

2. Joachim LOEW Germany After a long and arduous journey, Joachim Low has finally reached the summit of world football after leading Germany to a deserved triumph at the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. It marked the highlight of his eight and half year reign as Germany coach so far, coming four years after his side finished in third place at the tournament in South Africa thanks to their technically demanding attacking game. A meticulous worker and astute tactician, Low impressively moulded his team to perform as a single unit in Brazil, with the side harmonising almost perfectly both in defence and attack. “I was absolutely convinced that we would be able to take the last step, which we did in 2014,” the 54-year-old Black Forest native said. “The time was right and the team were ready.” 1 Like

3. Diego SIMEONE Argentina “One game at a time” became Diego Simeone’s mantra last season, one in which his brand of dedication, perspiration and complete commitment allowed Atletico Madrid to win the Spanish La Liga and break a nine-year stranglehold by Real Madrid and Barcelona. A master when it comes to set-piece strategies and man management, the Argentinian also took his side to the brink of European glory. Appearing in only the second European Cup/UEFA Champions League final in their history, they came within seconds of lifting the famous trophy only to succumb to a last-gasp rally by cross-town rivals Real. A small measure of revenge would later come for Simeone and his men in the Spanish Super Cup.

I would like ancelloti to win the coach of the year, but the others did equally well and would deserve it.I prefer van persie to win the puskas because i love his technique for the goal, but think J.rodriguez will win it. |

wristwatch:cr7 might be given cos its political. the fact that voting ended before messi's records mean Neuer deserves it but I'm sure FIFA will even go to the extent of rigging for cr7 to win. |
