If the above is really true, then it will take more than myself to make you understand a very "cranially complicated" procedure!
It will be like trying to teach "Differential Mathematics" to a five year old. I would rather he learns A,B, C first before attempting that. wink wink
My point is, you need to get to grasp with the "basics" of Economics 101... then we can sit down and discuss the above.

As a parting shot: "Some things" led to the volatility of the Oil price viz-a-viz how it affects Nigeria in particular (which was Buhari's focus and what he intends to address).

Lastpage!
what were these things that caused the volatility of oil price? How will buhari control dese variables ?

I am talking about people who are working, not the poor that GMB is seeking to help with this welfare strategy.

The only people that I know for sure pay taxes are civil servants and other working directly for the gov. Others do, but there is no robust system of taxation that spans the whole country and covers all working people or businesses.

There is a tax threshold in all countries that have a welfare state. If you are below the threshold you don't pay tax. Even for those above it is calculated at different rates, depending on your salary/wage. People who are self employed pay taxes too.

Nigerans, will always, always, never agree that individuals should pay tax, yet with the same lips talk about welfare that they should experience.

Ofcourse they will cite western countries to agrue what they should get, but never what they should GIVE.
What they are trying to do is financially empower the citizen starting from the poorest. Hungry people will not learn and hungry people will not think critically; basically, hungry person=non productive citizen. Welfare doesn't mean they get to stay on it forever, it means you get a stepping stone to better things and a fighting chance in life. Note also, for example, that for the NYSC graduates the plan is to assist them financially for 12 months meaning in that period they will most likely find a job that pays better. These are signs of a serious government that means business and loves it's people.

This is a laudable project and I think it should be supported. It can work. Especially if corruption is seriously attacked.

Is he for real? N5,000 monthly for 25 million people will be N1.5t per year. This is apart from the free food and etc he noted there. How much is the budget or will he start borrowing to fund these welfare/socialist programs? Instead of using the money to stimulate the economy so that they won't just be eating fish but will learn how to fish. This is just an inflationary policy that will be unworkable and unproductive.

Even going into the nitty gritty of the plan, how will the 25million be chosen? Who will administer it? How will they ensure that ghost Nigerians are not being paraded? How will they ensure that people are not cheated? Hope it won't discourage people from hustling?

I know no one is an economist, but they should have advisers on the economy na. I turn up my nose at this one.

I am shocked that most people who dont like Buhari (out of fear, out of ignorance or just sheer hatred) are asking: WHERE WILL THE MONEY COME FROM?

Maybe l should ask you guys: Where did the $20 Billion Dollars missing from NNPC come from?
Where did the $5Billion or so that Dimeji Bank-Ole stole, come from?
Where did the Billions being distributed to TAN come from?
Where did the #2Billion for "Aso Rock food" come from?
Where did the "Constituency Allowance of our useless Sin-nators come from?
Where does the Billions being stolen by the Subsidy Scammers come from?
Where did the $13Billion wasted on Electricity by OBJ (without results) come from?

I can go on forever, asking this question about "real money" that was stolen.

ALL WE NEED IS A LEADER THAT WOULD TAME LOOTING AND CORRUPTION AND YOU WILL SEE THAT WE ARE AWASH WITH SO MUCH MONEY THAT CAN BE USED FOR SUCH PROGRAM! We simply re-direct our stolen (now recovered or kept safe by Buhari) money to the program!

GEJ is certainly not that Leader, as we have seen in the last SIX YEARS of his being our President!

And those who are asking about "How the Program is going to be managed"?
I've heard people say the same thing when it comes to generating Electricity from Nuclear Power! (Nigerians are careless oOoo!)

Do you actually think Nigerians are so incapable of doing anything good? We just lack leadership, thats all. Go and see what Nigerians achieve abroad (despite all the odds they face), where they are provided with "leadership".

Please dont be so pessimistic.... we are a great people just unfortunate to be led by STUBBORN GOATS! grin grin

Lastpage!

Whoever denies the fraudulant and dishonest nature of ordinary Nigerians, is doing a dis service to the so called change they scream about.

In all honesty, if corruption was only found in Nigerian political big men, we would have less than 100,000 corrupt and dishonest people in Nigeria.

We all know the average Nigerian is just as corrupt as the politician. Politicians are just in a position to be able to steal bilions. I'm not saying there are no honest Nigerians, but seriously when it comes to money................

It is the average Nigerian that will call a person "mumu" if you have an opportunity to steal or swindle, and choose not to.

It is the average Nigerian that will call a man that enriches himself by being dishonest and gets away with it, a "sharp guy"

Be honest with ourselves, at least. There are individuals that are honest, but its not just the politicians who are corrupt.

Sadly, implementing this plan would breed corruption, laziness and even baby boom. This would be an avenue for corrupt politicians to manufacture non existent names and even families, inflating the budget meant for the program and ultimately diverting the excess.

Among the thousands or millions of educated Nigerians, from the elite to the ordinary, politicians and non partisan, aren't they seeing beyond the surface?

We are more in need of infrastructural and economic development, therefore, resources should be rightly channelled to the aforementioned.

It s laudable, I'm not saying it is not, but Nigeria can not sustain this at this time. You live in a country with a welfare state, right?

So, you know how these things work.

The money is better spent on those who will find a job, start a business or employ others. Its even better spent on those who have a business, but can expand and employ these people, at a wage more than N5000 per month each.

I think your misunderstand. He never said "I will give you money forever so you don't have to work again". What was said, basically, is: "We will try to alleviate the sufferings of the poorest of our masses (which unfortunately make up a majority of our citizens) starting from the Children --- by providing them free meals so they that they can learn in peace and on a full stomach so them and coming generations don't get to learn on a empty stomach so that they don't end up in poverty and hopelessness like those before them because we know nobody learns on a hungry stomach. Next, we will try to provide for the old, invalids and unemployed and women as much as we can. In the process we will create jobs that'll ensure your dignity is intact, you get paid better, and you will not have to beg again for anything in your---not even from the Govt --- life so long as you're a Nigerian citizen". Finito.

Nobody with an atom of dignity wants to be on welfare. And I know Nigerians to be very prideful people, they hate to be beggars. But at this point, they need someone and something to sustain them and get them out of the poverty mentality so that they can become better and more productive citizens. And if Govt assistance for the poorest majority--- instead of private jets and Bentleys for a corrupt few--- is the solution, then so be it.

Which is 44 billion naira per month and 528 billion naira a year. How much be our national budget to begin spend 528 billion on feeding children? N5,000 × 25 million Nigerians = 1.2 trillion naira every month.

N40 food × 50 million Nigerian children = 2 billion a day and 44 billion per month.

N20,000 × average of 300,000 ex-corpers = 6 billion per month.

Do not let your love for Buhari leave you in delusion, no nation or group of nations can "stabilise" oil prices. OPEC the oil clique is still very much in play yet in spite of their efforts global oil prices have fallen from >$100 to about $50. Demand from oil thirsty countries has dropped, the US has stepped up its local production by exploiting shale. There is no singular measure that OPEC or any nation for that matter can use right now to revert oil prices back to what it was before. It will only rise when demand from countries like the USA and China pick up. Thats why it is completely ridiculous that Buhari claims he can stabilise oil prices.

His comment alone speaks volumes about his ignorance about this matter and it shocking that someone who claims he is better than than the current leader can be so bold with such ignorance. It is a big shame that this is the kind of person we want to lead us to greatness after the disappointment that GEJ has been.

What is the point of replacing a dumb leader with an ignorant one?

The bold part of your quote is the most ignorant thing i have heard this year, as such you lack what it takes to deliberate on this subject, to earn a second chance, ans the questions below:

What do you think is the foreign policy of Saudi Arabia (highest OPEC producer) in relation to this crisis?
What will it achieve in short and long terms for the Saudi?
Cite a year or period Saudi used same strategy? Brief me further if it worked or not, which ever way you think cite reasons and examples

You have forever to research and come up with valid answers, one more wrong answer will not get a response from me, do you know why?
Most people come here to dabble into issues that is way beyond their pay grade just to feel among, trust me, I aint in the mood for free classes. let us leave Buhari out of it for a second, Goodluck!!
