The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Akwa Ibom State, southern Nigeria, has suffered a major blow ahead of the general elections as the party’s 22 aggrieved governorship aspirants otherwise known as G22, have finally defected to the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC.
The Punch reports that they will meet the APC’s presidential candidate, Major-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday, 12 January, 2015.
It was learnt that the 22 governorship aspirants of the PDP in the controversial 8 December, 2014 primary in the state decided to defect from PDP to the APC on Wednesday.
One of the aspirants, who spoke on condition of anonymity with The Punch on Thursday, said their decision was based on the way they were treated by the PDP in the state.
The aspirant also said President Goodluck Jonathan could not find a solution to the crisis.
He said the crisis came to a head on 6 January, 2015 when Jonathan, after scheduling to meet with them, later declined.
The aspirant said: “The President’s last minute decision was said to have been masterminded by a fifth columnist.
“It could be recalled that the (members of) G22 have been in Abuja since 9 December, 2014. Both the party leadership and the President are playing games with them without finding a political solution to the issues and without using the party’s mechanism to redress their complaints.
“This inhuman treatment is only meted out to G22. How could the President, who had met with individuals like Senator (Musiliu) Obanikoro and Senator Ifeanyi Araraume not meet 22 aspirants of the party? Is the President saying that they do not count? Then let us see how the party will win in Akwa Ibom State.”
The 22 aggrieved PDP aspirants had on December 8, 2014 protested against the governorship primary, saying the exercise lacked transparency.
The aspirants had accused the party of using a fake delegates’ list.
They also alleged that the party leadership did not disclose the venue of the primary to other aspirants before the time of the election.

They are yet to see anything. PDP structure has crumbled right under the watch of Mr. President. Everyone that seems to work with him get bad-luck or something. He is the only beneficiary of good-luck not nigerians.

He has been at the corridors of power since 1999. He has been deputy gov, gov, vice president. And now, he has been president for 6yrs. What a fantastic good-luck he has. 16years of uninterrupted political career.

He met Alamieyeseigha, Alams was removed and disgraced. He met Yaradua, Yaradua kicked the bucket. He met our reserve, our reserve depleted. He met our currency, our currency was devalued. The man who push so much that Naira must not be devalued (Sanusi) was disgraced out of office. He met PDP, he turned it upside down. He met Boko Haram, Boko Haram escalated beyond our capacity to curtail. He met subsidy regime and subsidy payment rose by more than 300% (i dont know if Nigerian population exploded in one year to warrant it).

The only thing Jonathan could remember at the flag off of his campaign was that the economy has grown astronomically to become the biggest in Africa. What he has forgotten to tell Nigerians is that it wasn't as a result of his effort but the fact that two additional industry, namely; Telecoms and Nollywood was added to our GDP sectoral lines. Despite the huge leap in the GDP because of the re-basing, he has forgotten to tell us where they rank in terms of Per Capital GDP, which is a true reflection of the impact of GDP on the people.

He also talked about the resuscitation of Nigerian Railway Corporation with the purchase of locomotive trains when the world is going for metro train lines. That means we are still in the realm of 1990s when the world is moving to trains that can take you to work from Ibadan to Lagos in 15-20 mins.

They used Okonjo Iweala to frustrate the World Bank support for the Light Train project from Badagry to Marina. Federal Govt refused to guarantee the second tranch of payment so that Fashola will not complete the project and give APC government a good leverage to campaign in 2015.

We are watching.... dairis God!

The number of defectors from one party to another won't and shall not change the already set chart as to how the electorates would cast their votes.
