Eligibility

Each Master’s programme has its own specific admissions requirements. Before you start filling out the application form, make sure that you meet the requirements of the programme admissions. The following includes the basic information on admissions requirements for Master’s courses.
General Academic Requirements

A successful applicant has obtained their first academic degree, normally a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, from an institution of higher education. As a rule, the Bachelor’s degree is the lower academic degree. This degree should be equivalent of at least three years of full-time studies (180 ECTS).
Applicants graduating spring/second term 2015

Students who are on their last term/semester of Bachelor’s studies can apply to study for a Master’s degree. Applicants with excellent academic records can be offered a conditional study placement.

Applicants are required to submit an officially certified copy of the latest transcript of records (Nigeria

If you have completed or are completing your degree in Nigeria, an official transcript of records must be submitted to University Admissions Finland by the awarding institution. The envelope must be sealed by the awarding institution’s official stamp across the back flap. The transcript of records must come to University Admissions Finland directly from the awarding institution and cannot be sent by the applicant.

It is acceptable if the envelope contains other official documents awarded by the institution (e.g. degree certificate and diploma supplement). However, no other enclosures can be submitted with the transcript of records). If you receive the degree certificate and the final transcript of records during the application period, it is recommended that you submit them as well. You should point out the anticipated graduation date on the application and submit the documents you have at the time of applying. Do not wait to receive your final diploma or degree certificate if it is not available during the application period

In the case that the applicant is accepted for study, the applicant has to submit officially certified copies of his/her Bachelor’s degree certificate and the final transcript of records according to the following timetable;

Applicants graduating from Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences - June 15 2015
Applicants graduating form abroad or Finnish research university - July 31 2015

Language Requirements

All applicants are required to prove a high level of proficiency in English language. All programmes ask the applicant to submit documented evidence of their level of English. Please note that there are no exceptions to these rules.

It should be noted that most unsuccessful applicants in recent years failed to prove their level of English sufficiently.

Other Admissions Requirements

Applicants are asked to submit documentation on their academic excellence, for example in the form of academic recommendation letters. Also other documents relating to the field of study are required. Please visit the website Application Documents for the detailed list of required enclosures for application. Also note that all documents are listed as obligatory for application and no exceptions are made in requirements.

The application will be processed in the Selection Committee only if:

The applicant submits an application in the requested manner
The applicant submits the application documents in the requested manner
The applicant’s previous education gives eligibility for a Master’s studies
The applicant’s language proficiency satisfies the language requirements.

The University does NOT charge tuition fees. In addition, The Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine has also established a Protein Science International Master’s Scholarship Programme to provide scholarships to academically talented international students who undertake the international master’s in Protein Science and Biotechnology at the University of Oulu. The scholarship meant to cover some living expenses is for a maximum of two years and is for 4000 euros per year. It is available only for non-EU/EEA applicants.

There are 15 spaces for these Scholarships.
