"Freedom of Speech" or "Spread of Hate"

My attention has been drawn to the different reactions trailing the release of the new "Charlie Hebdo" Magazine, which cover once again carries the picture of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). This is the first edition printed following the attack on the magazine's headquarters that left 12 people, including 2 police officers, dead. Majority of the commentary are in support of the decision by the publishers of this magazine to depict Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) on it's cover, they say it's a win for Freedom of Speech and expression. There are Muslims who also agree that the magazine publishers have the right to express themselves freely and urge other Muslims to simply ignore this action by "Charlie Hebdo". 

So I started to really ponder and ask what is the line between Freedom of Speech and Spread of Hate. We all know that anti-semitism is a crime in many European countries, same way many countries around the world have laws against defamation of character. When does a simple comment or simple insult become a hate speech or a crime, why can't I be free to openly mock the Jews and events surrounding the Holocaust, why is it against the law to openly insult the English monarchy, infact why are certain societies against anti-gay speeches. If it is not allowed for the dignity and sensitivity of the Jewish people or gays to be insulted, if it is not allowed for the characters of individuals to be publicly defamed, why then is it OK for Charlie Hebdo to insult the dignity of the over 1.8Billion Muslims in the world in the name of Free Speech. Isn't it truly a systematic spread of hate against Islam when the one that is most beloved to every Muslim becomes a source of ridicule. How is it okay for u to hurt my feelings but want me to respect urs. The reason we have laws is so that we can create a morally upright society, a society where we do unto others as we want done unto us. Every sensible society creates a line between Freedom of Speech and the Spread of Hate and the entire World should know now that insulting the Prophet of Islam is no Freedom of Expression but a Spread of Hate, because each time it happens, close to 2 Billion people whom u share the world with feels very very hurt, just the same way a Jewish person will feel hurt when u mock the holocaust.

I as a Muslim strongly condemn all acts of terror carried out around the world by elements who in no way represent the beautiful and peaceful message of Islam,including the attacks on Charlie Hebdo HQ and the Kosher shop in Paris. These terror acts however does not justify the mockery of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) by Charlie Hebdo Magazine, for truly it wasn't Islam that attacked them and they should stop spreading hatred against Islam.

I as a Muslim strongly condemn the new edition of Charlie Hebdo Magazine and urge all Muslims worldwide to do so in the protection of the dignity of our beloved Prophet (pbuh) and our very beautiful religion of Islam. Let us use all non-violent means to show our protest and let the world know how hurt we feel by this slander and defamation. Charlie Hebdo should find less offensive ways to get their messages across and stop benefitting from causing others misery.
