The 57-year-old '24 hours' start has tied the knot with the 27-year-old author, taking to Twitter to share the exciting news.

Alongside a photograph of the happy couple signing the wedding register, stephen wrote: "Gosh. @ElliottGSpencer and i go into a room as 2 individuals, sign a book and leave together. Amazing. (sic)"

Stephen - who solely confirmed the news of their engagement a couple of weeks past - antecedently joked that he hoped for a "private wedding".
