No fewer than 360,000 security personnel will be deployed to ensure that the 2015 general election is violence-free.

To this end, the security agencies have assured of their preparedness for the conduct of the general election.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Suleiman Abba, disclosed this while speaking to journalists at the end of a 2-day conference with the theme: Nigeria 2015 Elections and Beyond: Roles of State and Non-State Actors in Mitigating Violence in Elections.

According to him, about 300,000 of his officers have been trained in partnership with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and development partners.

Commandant General (CG), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Ade Abolurin disclosed that 60,000 of his officers will also partake in securing life and properties during the election.

The event was organized by a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Development and Democracy (SCCD) and Centre for Strategic and International Studies (SCIS) at the weekend in Abuja.

Why can't all these security agents be deployed to fight Boko Haram?? 360,000 agents would overwhelm those gangsters. Or is it only during elections that this govt. sees it fit to deploy full-blown security forces?

Whether they fight boko haram or protect people during elections, it is still lives they are going to save. We cannot afford to have a repeat of 2011 where NYSC members were killed.
Soldiers will be on ground this time around.
