Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, on Friday, agreed with the position of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Colonel Sambo Dasuki, by also calling for postponement of the February general elections.

George, who addressed a press conference at his Ikoyi, Lagos residence, said he was also making the call for a shift in the polls to enable Nigerians collect their PVCs, noting that he was yet to collect his.

According to the PDP chieftain, “the NSA sees things deeper than any of us. So many people have not got their PVCs in Lagos and they will be disenfranchised. I have not collected mine. There are logistic problems, but calling for a postponement of the election does not mean it will be conducted after May 29.

“The NSA must ensure there is peace in the land. If we have a breather, all well and good; this will give INEC time to distribute the PVCs. I have no objection if it is done as the NSA has said.

“I don’t think they will postpone the elections till after May 29. His (NSA) fears are genuine because the collection of these PVCs is important.”

Speaking further, the former deputy national chairman appealed to Nigerians to eschew ethnic and religious bigotry, pointing out that the peace of the country was paramount.

“Let us put Nigeria first; let us come together in harmony and peaceful association. Let us all promote merit instead of nepotism; let us all promote observable knowledge instead of cronyism.

“This is our collective fight; this is our collective struggle. Enough of this charlatanism. Enough of this rampant fraud and lies. Enough of the unconscionable wastage of our treasury,” he added.

George, while calling for change in the administration of Lagos State, contended that the country was in good hand at the Federal level but not so in Lagos State, insisting that power must change hand in the state.

The truth is that rigging is almost impossible with the current number of collected PVCs which is low. If PVC collection rates are high, then there are higher chances of rigging the election. As simple as ABC!

If only the President had spent more time aggressively highlighting his achievements, like meeting personally with beneficiaries of his successes in the agric sector (the real grassroot folks), riding in the refurbished trains, meeting and socializing with SURE-P/YouWin beneficiaries, and shedding that timid image he's cultivated for himself since the inception of his administration, maybe, just maybe he would stand a better chance in this election.

Rather, he allowed FFK and his campaign team waste the last 3 weeks going after Buhari's certificate. But since that wild goose chase has resulted in futility, he now wants to bend the rules by asking for an extension to campaign on the real issues.

Jittery mode activated in the camp of PDP. Jega should not listen to them lest he goes down in history among those who truncate the 3rd republic.

How come its only Jonasatans henchmen that are calling for postponement. If Inec themselves that are saddled with the responsibility of conducting elections were parading this line of thought at least it is acceptable to some extent. But why is the pdp taking panadol for Jega's headache or is the pdp the media arm of Inec? I smell a rat and Nigerians are watching in 7d to see how this will playout.

Very well said!! They have had a horrible campaign strategy!!! And I should add, they should have spent time analysing GMB's manifesto to look for holes. That's how a campaign is run.

@topic. . . I ask again, if we couldn't do it in SIX YEARS, what's to say it will be done in THREE MONTHS?!

Sounds like these PDP chieftains have already accepted that their party and her candidate cannot win the forthcoming elections. Only their street supporters are still under any illusion.

I'm beginning to feel sorry for Jonathan, because when this new plot fails these people who have been deceiving him will go behind him to negotiate soft landing for themselves with Buhari and/or APC..
