Youths in the Niger Delta yesterday 19th January 2015 in Port Harcourt threatened to vote out President Jonathan, who hails from the Niger Delta region, over his insincerity to empower the youths of the area through the Niger Delta Commission (NDDC)

According to the youths, the commission now lacks vision since the emancipation of Good luck Jonathan as President . That in 2001, Obansanjo set the legacy system with 13 Billion naira to empower the youths through his quick impact empowerment programs and made the commission the only attractive Agency created by the federal government in the Niger Delta. The youths were empowered through the collaborative plans made by the board with MTN and GLOBACOM, then came the NDDC mass transit scheme, the free health care, the computer literate program, the AGRO and the AGRO BASE programs. Christmas package which is always on the budget was delivered to Niger Delta youths till the end of Obasanjo regime.

Today youths could not celebrate Christmas due to poverty and corruption in the commission where over N300 billion was received by the commission earlier in the year. The Niger Delta commission has never before received such bulk money without empowering the youths. Obasanjo made sure that the youths where empowered, there was a presidential monitoring committee in the Obasanjo’s regime but in the Jonathan’s regime there’s no monitoring committee making the board to be complaisant of there duties due to poor monitoring from the president. Obasanjo set up a youth directorate that was completely and properly coordinating the youths in the NDDC.

Jonathan appointed George Turner as the special Adviser on youths affairs and the appointment has drastically reduced the youths directorate and the sycophants around him and he now drives on bullet proof Jeeps and uses military escort to intimidate the Niger Delta youths and changes hotels at his peril.

The board has no directions of which they are only interested in funding political campaigns, weddings, birthday parties e.t.c. If the President is sincere, he should call for the dissolution of this present board because they lack the sincerity and good will to develop the Niger Delta. The youths calls on Mr. president to reverse the situation of the water hyacinth project by paying everybody who applied or may stand the risk by voting him out by youths of Rivers, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Ondo, CrossRiver, Bayelsa, Imo, Delta and Edo they said.
