Major rift between the Nigerian and American military authorities have been hampering the fight against Boko Haram militants, which have been carrying out murderous attacks on villages and towns in the North-East, theNew York Timesreports.
Relations between American military trainers and specialists advising the Nigerian military in the fight against Boko Haram are so strained that the Pentagon often bypasses Nigeria altogether, choosing to work instead with security officials in the neighbouring countries of Chad, Cameroon and Niger,NY Timesquoted defence officials and diplomats as saying.
Following the strain in relationship, the Federal Government in December 2014 cancelled the last stage of American training of a newly-created Nigerian Army battalion and there has been no resumption of the training since then.
This was against the backdrop of the refusal of the US to sell Cobra attack helicopters and other lethal weapons to the Federal Government to combat the Boko Haram insurgency, saying the army could not maintain them.
US Secretary of State John Kerry, scheduled to travel to Nigeria on Sunday, is expected to discuss the security issue and the forthcoming elections with President Goodluck Jonathan when they meet in Lagos.
TheNY Timesreports that American officials are hesitant to share intelligence with the Nigerian military because they contend it has been infiltrated by Boko Haram.
It said that the US was so concerned about Boko Haram infiltration that American officials had not included raw data in intelligence they had provided Nigeria, worried that their sources would be compromised.
The officials are also said to be wary of the Nigerian military as well, citing corruption and sweeping human rights abuses by its soldiers.
“We don’t have a foundation for what I would call a good partnership right now,” said a senior military official with the US Africa Command, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak publicly on the matter.
“We want a relationship based on trust, but you have to be able to see yourself. And they’re in denial,” the official said.
Senator Ahmed Zanna said it was disappointing that the US would bypass Nigeria to work with smaller countries on terrorism.
“For a small country like Chad or Cameroon to come to assist the Americans, that is disappointing. You have a very good and reliable ally and you are running away from them,” he said, faulting the Nigerian government.
“It is terrible. I pray for a change of government,” he added.
A British diplomat noted that the frustration between the two sides (Nigeria and US) has broad implications for the fight against Boko Haram, including making it harder for other international partners who have joined the effort.
“We are trying to work closely with the French and the Americans in support of the Nigerian military and government against Boko Haram, a rift between one of our two partners and the Nigerian government is not a good thing,” the diplomat stated.

I just like fact that Nigerians are very funny.
I have learnt a lot from the Buhari certificate monomania. Since it happened, I started looking for all my certificates and school report cards. Infact I have safely kept the receipt for my jamb form, lecture notes, textbooks, photos even my secondary school P.T.A receipts and photocopy of my transfer form too, who knowns if anybody may request for it. If someone who schooled before independence can be asked to present his certificate, then who am I? If you are lucky enough to still have your secondary school uniform and sandal please, keep it because I still have mine right from my kindergarten days. Who knows any clueless person can ask for it? So currently, I'm searching for the sharpener and 2Anotebook I used in Pry 1....... hope u've started looking for yours as well

Senator Ahmed Zanna can shove his mouth up his arsse! angry

American military are bullies. Yes, let them go and work with those they can cheaply manipulate and out-maneuver like the stooges they are. Anywhere the Americans get involved, the small wound always grows into cancer. Before you know it, Nigeria becomes another disorganised state.

John Kerry knows Nigerians can't be pushed around like Chad and Cameroon.
For the records, America did not ignore Nigeria, Nigeria snubbed the US and just got the needed military hardware delivered.

Its a big shame on Ol' Uncle Sam and his media propaganda!

Hahahahaha..

The United State of Satan (oh sorry, America) is at it again.

Once it is becoming clear that they are loosing a fight, they step up the usual rhetorics and psyop nonsense talks and excuses.

Now that we have gotten some of the needed armaments and the terrorists are now taking serious beating, the US wants us to believe that they have been doing the much needed thing in fighting the boko haram menace, when actually everything they have done is to ensure that Nigeria is handicapped and unable to conquer the insurgents.

It is amazing and equally shameful to hear the US talking about the ability of Nigeria to mentain the needed equipments and infos, that they may 'likely' fall into the hands of Boko Haram, when themselves are 'knowingly' supplying and funding terrorists-so-called 'moderate rebels' in Syria, the majority of which upon recieving such weapons, thereafter massively decamp to the ISIS.

Yet, they go around talking nonesense about others.

The level of US hypocrisy at times is overwhelming!

Yes, the current Federal Government has alot of defects in certain areas when it comes to governance. But when it comes to dealing with the USA, i would give them a score card of 70/100 (70, because they are yet to fully understand and realize that the US is no friend).

Nigeria had simply refused to be bullied and control by the hegemon, hence thier wicked and inhuman attitude towards Nigeria.

Imagine the US accusing Nigerian army of indiscriminate use of weapons, as the reason they are not selling, and even blocking the ones we wanted to buy, when thier so called 'super power' military does nothing better than massively destroying civilian infrastructres, killing untold numbers of innocent women and children, in all the countries they have dubiously and satanically fought against.
From Nicaragua to Panama, from Vietnam to Serbia, etc, etc.
The horrors of the Empire in Vietnam is still being felt there till this day. Toxic munitions used to exterminate whole villages in that country, has left the government there spending billions to mitigate the effects.

Iraqis high rise buildings and many residential houses and surroundings that crumbles atop many children, women and the elderlies, are so heartbraking that you need all the courage to watch the clips on videos.

Yet they are talking as if they are 'the righteous ones'.

The US can go to hell and continue with thier 'torture programs' for all i care.

Nigeria didn't recieved the requested Ebola virus, but God helping us, we conquered it. This also will not be an exception.

Pathectic bunch of hypocrites.
