Buhari Urges Upu Not To Allow Anioma Rule Delta State. by Sapeleboy(m): 7:37pm On Jan 26, 2015
The Presidential candidate of the All
Progressives Congress (APC), Gen.
Mohammadu Buhari has called on the
leadership of the Urhobo Progress Union,
UPU to uphold the spirit of the Uvwiamuge’s
Declarations, even as he vows to correct and
redress the marginalization of Urhobos by
the President Jonathan led Federal
Government if he is elected as President of
Nigeria.
Gen. Buhari, during a consultation visit to the
leadership of UPU, at Mosogar the country
home of the UPU President General, noted
that the Urhobo nation are known for their
forthrightness and democratic values and
ethos, adding that it was the democratic
values that influenced the Urhobo nation’s
famous Uvwiamuge’s Declaration, which he
said APC as a party has respected by giving its
governorship ticket to a prominent Urhobo
son, and therefore should be supported by
voting the APC in all elections, including the
presidential election.
According to him; “Uvwiamuge declaration
has two major aspects; The Urhobo will for a
National Party, that has an Urhobo son as the
Governorship candidate, the Urhobo will not
vote for any mushroom party that has no
National spread.
“On this score, the PDP, the other national
party failed the Urhobos. Only the APC gave its
Governorship ticket to your son, Olorogun
O’tega Emerhor. I have therefore come to
urge you to stand by your words as a mark of
honour and support your son, my party, APC
and myself, the Presidential candidate of the
APC with your estimated one million votes.”
While noting that the President Goodluck
Jonathan led government has not treated the
Urhobo Nation well by giving to her what is
due to the Urhobo people considering the
fact of the demographic and strategic
position in the country, Gen. Buhari promised
to address this imbalance and ill-treatment of
the Urhobo nation by the PDP government.
He said: “I am aware of the marginalization
of the Urhobo Nation by the Federal
Government and your several requests to the
Jonathan Administration by the Late Gen.
Patrick Aziza, during the UPU visit on 30th
July, 2013 and by the current leadership
headed by you, Chief Joe Omene. These
requests have not been fulfilled despite the
assurance by the PDP led administration. ”
He also urged the Urhobos to put the Niger
Delta sentiment aside, as it has not paid off
and put its interest first because politics is a
game of interest.
“I know President Jonathan is a Niger Delta
son, but this is not time for sentiments,
Urhobo nation must think of her interest first
and the interest of the nation. President
Jonathan has not done well to you in spite of
your previous support.
“If you vote me and your son, Olorogun
O’tega Emerhor into power in line with the
Uvwiamuge declaration, I will address the
request and correct the marginalisation ’s of
the Urhobo nation.
“It is my commitment that my government
will treat the Urhobo nation fairly and they
will get what they deserve in line with their
electoral values and economic contributions
to our great country, Nigeria.”
Speaking further, he stressed that he will also
address the issue of the near zero
appointment of the Urhobos at the Federal
level, almost total exclusion from federal
matters, high youth unemployment in Urhobo
land due to lack of federal projects and
institutions.
He also bemoaned the underfunding of the
Federal University of Petroleum Effurun, the
exclusion of Urhobo youth from amnesty and
pipeline surveillance job and the closure of
Delta Steel Company, Nigeria salt company,
Ogharefe amongst others, noting that he will
reactivate these companies if elected as
president to create jobs for the teaming
unemployed Urhobo youths.
In his remark, the UPU President General,
Chief Joe Omene prayed for General Buhari,
saying that the APC presidential candidate will
succeed in the forthcoming elections.
The Urhobo leader who assembled his people
to welcome General Buhari told the august
visitors that the political tide in Delta state
and Nigeria is changing, such that it is
extremely difficult for any political astrologer
to correctly predict which party will win the
elections any time this year.
He advised APC leadership to be committed
and focused, so as to achieve its lofty dreams
of winning the general elections at various
levels across the state.
General Buhari was accompanied on the visit
by Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, the APC
governorship candidate, Delta State, Governor
Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, Chief Odigin
Oyegun, APC National Chairman, Hon. Abike
Dabire-Erewa, Senator M. Mamora amongst
others.
Emerhor receives APC Guber flag
Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, APC flag bearer for
2015 Gubernatorial Elections in Delta State
has assured the good people of the State,
that better days are at sight if and only they
will muster enough courage to clip the wings
of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP)
by casting their votes for the APC during the
forthcoming general elections.
The Guber candidate said the Misrule of (PDP),
is one of the factors in this election and that
it is now left for the people to decide
whether or not they want socio-economic
freedom or to remain enslaved by the ruling
party’s corruption cabal, pointing out that the
sixteen (16) years of bad governance has
retarded the economic growth and overall
development of Delta State in particular and
Nigeria in general.
The APC candidate who received his party flag
from the National Chairman, Chief Odigie
Oyegun, posited that Delta State must be
salvaged from the stronghold of economic
saboteurs who without conscience looted
the treasury for themselves and political
associates. He told the huge crowd of
supporters at the Warri Stadium that General
Buhari is a disciplined man, a fact that will
need to be put to its best during the
elections.
Olorogun O’tega said the PDP has exhausted
their leadership strategies and that Nigerians
and indeed Deltans cannot afford to gamble
with another four or eight years because, the
same result will be repeated due to the fact
that those who are seeking for election or re-
election in the PDP are the same people who
collaborated to promote acute poverty,
unemployment and gross underdevelopmen
t in the country through poor governance.
Speaking at the occasion, the Presidential
candidate of the APC, General Mohammadu
Buhari said his interest to govern Nigeria
again is borne out of his sincere desire to
right the wrongs of the PDP; a party he said
had brought Nigeria into the dark ages of
penury, retrogression and full blown
corruption. The General opined that the
Nigerian people must of a necessity; take a
bold step to send PDP packing, to enable
progressive minds under the APC “CHANGE”
Agenda to rebuild the country.
Chief Odigie Oyegun, APC Party Chairman
while addressing the Olu of Warri, Ogiame
Atuwatse 11 said the APC has prominent sons
and daughters of the Itsekiri nation as
leaders, elders, supporters and candidates at
various levels , adding that the PDP grip on
Delta South has been broken, which is why
APC’s victory in the Itsekiri nation will be
overwhelming.
