Kano

Since taking office, President Goodluck Jonathan has followed through on the ambitious plans laid out in his Transformation Agenda, delivering significant achievements across all states of the nation.

Below are some of his many achievements in Kano State:
Agriculture:

- Private Rice Mill (Sarauniyya Golden Rice) has been established, boosting local rice production.

- Ended four decades of corruption in the fertilizer sector. Implemented the e – wallet system for the distribution of agricultural inputs to farmers.

- Implemented Dry Season farming projects.
Aviation:

- Remodeled Amino Kano International Airport, improving facilitation of passengers and cargo.

- Installed Doppler Weather Radar, Low level wind shear alert system (LLWAS), Thunderstorm and Lightning Detector, Upper Air Sounding Equipment, Air Quality & ozone monitoring system, Pilot/Crew Weather Briefing Facilities and many other associated equipment to meet ICAO standard.
Environment:

- Established National Reference Environmental Laboratories.

- Implemented Desertification Control Projects in the state.
Education:

- Instituted Almajiri schools.

- Constructed a new Library in Federal Unity school.

- Upgraded the Nigerian Police Academy in Wudil to University Status.
Health:

- Modernized and re-equipped Amino Kano University Teaching Hospital, rendering specialized medical care, reducing the number of Nigerians going overseas for medical treatment.

- Completed the facility upgrade at the Usman Danfodio University Teaching Hospital.

- Established the SURE-P Project on Primary Health Care.
Transport:

- Rehabilitation of Western railway corridor has improved rail transportation in the region as more Nigerians now travel by rail and has also boosted the economy of the state and region.

- Inland Container Depot in Zawachiki nearing completion.
Water:

- Established raw water supply from Tiga and Challawa Gorge Dams to Kano Metropolis.

- Conducted the Bagwai Irrigation Project.

- Conducted Urban Sector Reform Water projects.

- Established a water quality laboratory & monitoring network.

- Conducted the Kano river irrigation project.
Roads:

- Rehabilitated the Kano-Maiduguri Road.

- Repaired the Zaria – Kano road, reducing incidences of motor accidents on the road.

- Rehabilitated the Kano – Katsina Federal Road.
Power:

- Construction ongoing on 1 x 30MVA, 132/33kv substation at Wudil Kano State. Kano – Katsina 330KV Double – Circuit Transmission Line and 2 x 60MVA, 132/33KV Substation at Dambatta, Kano state.
Youth Empowerment:

- Launched YouWIN grants, which have been awarded to youths in the state.

- Launched the SURE-P youth empowerment scheme.
