The Nigerian Army has effected the arrest of the Commander of its Multi-national Task Force, Brigadier General Enitan Ransome-Kuti for abandoning his duty post, military sources told trendtopix.com.

Enitan is son of late human rights and pro-democracy activist, Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti, and nephew to late Afrobeat maestro, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

Also under arrest is the Commander’s Chief of Staff, a Lieutenant Colonel whose identity could not be readily ascertained.

Both officers are reportedly being held in the headquarters of 7th Division, Nigerian Army, Maiduguri.

General Ransome-Kuti, who was among several top army officers posted in December, 2013, was reportedly partying weeks ago when Boko Haram terrorists overran Baga.

Baga is headquarters of the Multinational Task Force, and is in Kukawa local government area, about 200 kilometres from Maiduguri, capital of Borno State.

We gathered that General Ransome-Kuti and his Chief of Staff are likely to be court-marshalled.

“Abandoning military hardware to enemies is a very serious offence. In the military, it is better to stay and be killed. If found guilty the punishment ranges from 20 years imprisonment to death penalty,” the source offered.
