Debate is 90 minutes program that gives electorates the opportunity to see candidates under pressure.

Who win any presidential debate actually, it does not matter in the Nigerian case, but I do belief that debate is very important. In 2011, Buhari, Ribado & Shekarau debated when a non governmental organization, a neutral body 'transition monitoring group' designed the debate. President Jonathan absented. But who won that debate does not make any difference.

Purpose of Presidential Debate.
First, we must remember, presidential debate is not a policy, because no coherent policy on complex issues can be stated within 90 seconds.
But debate do help in changing the minds of the electorates. Presenting a convincing response on the side of a candidate can benefits him/her immensely.


On the side of the electorates, how a candidate endures a slander in a debate, is an outstanding quality than can portray him as a leader. To endure a slander (i.e Nigeria's case when a person will accuse you of murdering your step mum), will give the electorates opportunity to learn how can you react to such unreasonable & unfair accusation as a president will certainly encounter.
Any president who is expected to be treated fairly is a liability.

Debate is a special way of IQ test. The ability of a candidate to answer a complex question that cannot be answered within a given constrain time will show the level of preparedness of a presidential candidate.

Electorates can equally test the calmness of the candidate under pressure & his ability to articulate issues, while convincing the audience that he/she is fit.

The most important will entails that, winner of the debate will appear that if his mind is gleams into will be able to shoulder the responsibilities of a presidency.


Now for us to be convinced by our candidate, BON should not deny Nigerians this opportunity, therefore, I am calling on them with a strong voice to withdraw from organizing the presidential debate & allow a neutral body to organize a neutral debate that both candidates of APC, PDP & other parties will participate to enable us to make a choice.
