Igbo Youths To Resist Takeover Of Trade Fair Complex by Lilimax(f): 12:08pm On Feb 02, 2015
The Congress of Igbo Youths (CIY) in Lagos has condemned the purported plan by the Minister of Trade and Investment, Olusegun Aganga, to commence legal proceedings on the cancellation of the concessioning of the Lagos International Trade Fair complex, which was won by Aulic Nigeria Limited.

He was quoted to have promised the Lagos Chamber of Commerce & Industry that the complex would be given to them after the cancellation.

The minister made the promise during the opening ceremony of the Lagos international trade fair. But the Congress of Igbo Youths, in a statement by its Secretary General, Ikechukwu Adimoye, faulted the minister.

The youth accused the minister of fanning the embers of disunity and tribalism, as they warned that they would resist such move.

The group pointed out that “Ndigbo and the Yorubas had been living together peacefully especially in Lagos State. Ndigbo participated massively during the last election in Lagos State and some are now serving in Governor Fashola’s administration. “The Ndigbo have been going about their lawful businesses and have been paying their taxes and other contributions in Lagos State. They feel at home in Lagos state and have tried to ensure that the Yorubas living in Igbo land are not messed with in anyway. So far, peace has been maintained and enjoyed both ways by the two tribes.” The group however warned that the minister is about to end peaceful co-existence by attempting to take away the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex won by an Igbo indigene.

“If the minister by omission or commission wants the Federal Government into cancelling the concessioning of Lagos International Trade Fair Complex to Aulic Nigeria Limited, every concessioned and privatised enterprise in the South East and South South zone must be cancelled.

“We have waited for anybody to come up with reasonable facts as to why the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex concession has been denied the peace and support which it deserves.”

The youths pointed out that initially, the reason given was that the traders in the complex do not want the concession. They said, “it is surprising and irritating that the minister is no more talking about the traders in the complex but is now talking about giving the complex to the Lagos Chambers. They advised the Lagos Chamber of Commerce & Industry to forget about getting the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex and rather continue holding the annual fair either at Tafawa Balewa Square or Lagos International Trade Fair Complex as they had been doing in the interest of the peace and economic co-existence of the nation. The youths noted that there are other trade fair complexes and other enterprises all over the country and wondered why the minister and his staff are not paying attention to those other trade fair complexes but are only concentrating on the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex.
