The first large-scale trials of an experimental Ebola vaccine has begun in Liberia. This is part of a global effort to prevent a repeat of the epidemic that has claimed about 9,000 lives in West Africa.

The trial will involve injecting each of them with a tiny amount of chimpanzee cold virus that carries safe genetic material of Ebola, tricking the human body into producing an immune response.

This is according to a document from PREVAIL, the acronym for Partnership for Research on Ebola Vaccines in Liberia, as the U.S.-Liberia collaboration is called.
