Some species which are not directly edible in that they have to be cooked before consumption come in Purple. These are also called Aubergines or Egg plants depending on the part of the world. Among the Ibo tribe in Nigeria, it is usually eaten alongside specially made and spiced groundnut paste. In other parts of Nigeria, it is eaten solely as snack, alongside groundnuts. It is also cooked and made into stew- a classic accompaniment of cooked yam.

Garden Eggs, Aubergines or Eggplants (Different names for different parts of the world) have several health benefits they include:
Weight Reduction
One major health benefit of garden egg is that it helps to burnt fat and tends to reduce weight and keep the body fit at all time when taken. This is attributed to the fact that Garden eggs are rich in fibre and fills the stomach when eaten. This prevents food cravings between meals and in essence, helps the body burn stored up fat.
This is a good news for our fat and overweight people out there.
Improves memory
Findings from animal studies suggest that nasunin, an anthocyanin within eggplant skin, is a powerful antioxidant that protects brain cells from free radical damage. Research has also shown that anthocyanins inhibit neuroinflammation and facilitate blood flow to the brain. This helps prevent age-related mental disorders and also improves memory.
As earier stated, Garden Eggs are an excellent source of dietary fiber. They also have good amounts of potassium, manganese, copper and thiamin (vitamin B1). CARROTS!
Carrots are everywhere around us now. The orange short, stout and edible sweet sticks that we have on the hawker’s tray. As much as we have them around, we really take them for granted passing by and not paying attention to their presence. Please, read through, you will find amazing facts about carrots. You can’t beat this, Come with me…
Carrots have a huge amount of Vitamin A. For this, carrots are best known. This comes from beta-carotene, which is converted into vitamin A in your liver. Interestingly, there's a reason why 'carrot' and 'carotene' sound so alike. The word carotene was devised in the early 19th century by a German scientist after he crystallized the compound from carrot roots, you see, as far back as the 19th century. Carrots when eaten as part of an overall healthy diet, provide you with protection against heart disease and stroke while helping you to build strong bones and a healthy nervous system.
Eating more deep-orange-colored fruits and vegetables is associated with a lower risk of coronary heart disease (CHD). In recent studies, researchers have found that carrots are associated with a 32 percent lower risk of CHD.
Carrots also contain falcarinol, a natural toxin that protects carrots against fungal disease. It's thought that this compound may stimulate cancer-fighting mechanisms in the body. Now that’s interesting.
Also, Carrot extract has been found to be useful for the management of cognitive dysfunctions and may offer memory improvement and cholesterol-lowering benefits. The extract from carrots also has anti-inflammatory properties and provided anti-inflammatory benefits that were significant even when compared to anti-inflammatory drugs like Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Naproxen and Celebrex.
Armed with this information, I believe the carrot guy will not pass you unnoticed.
Enjoy CARROTS.

Hello Out there. We shared on PLANTAINS very recently. Today, lets discuss COCOYAMS. Cocoyam has several other names from different parts of the world. These names includes but are not limited to the following: Taro, Dasheen corms, Ede, Eddo, e.t.c
I stumbled on some information about Cocoyam and I was amazed. First, cocoyam though a root is also classified as vegetable. Cocoyam is free from gluten. They carry high-quality phyto-nutrition profile comprising of dietary fiber, and antioxidants in addition to moderate proportions of minerals, and vitamins. Not bad for a tuber. It is one of the finest source dietary fibers; 100 g flesh provides 4.1 g or 11% of daily-requirement of dietary fiber. That’s Wow! It also contains good levels of some of the valuable B-complex group of vitamins such as pyridoxine (vitamin B-6), folates (folic acid), riboflavin, pantothenic acid, and thiamine. Little wonder it is considered as a vegetable. Further, cocoyam provides healthy amounts of some of important minerals like zinc, magnesium, copper, iron, and manganese. In addition, the root has very good amounts of potassium. Potassium is an important component of cell and body fluids that help regulate heart rate and blood pressure. Regular consumption of cocoyam is good for those who are trying to lose weight because of its low caloric and high fiber content.
Cocoyam is ideal food for cancer prevention, it has low fat and sodium content, this makes it an ideal food for preventing hardening of the arteries, which is usually caused by eating foods that are heavy in cholesterol. Because cocoyam has minimal amount of fat, you can eat several servings of cocoyam and not worry about adding unwanted pounds or other risks, which are associated with fatty foods such as heart or kidney diseases.
Cocoyam is one versatile food that could be turned into anything. It could be boiled and eaten as Yam, Cooked as soup (Ofe-ede)- That’s from the Ibo community in Nigeria, Cocoyam Chips, Roast delicacy (usually eaten with peppered smoked fish), Pudding. It is usually grated and cooked in its leaves alongside some irresistible ingredients, Pounded Cocoyam is also interesting. Well, mouth-watering. And the leaves, soup material.
Never look past COCOYAM AGAIN ITS GOT LOTS TO OFFER.

Fish is a good source of protein and, unlike fatty meat products, it’s not high in saturated fat. Fish is also a good source of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids benefit the heart of healthy people, and those at high risk of or who have cardiovascular disease (disease of the heart). Research has shown that omega-3 fatty acids decrease risk of arrhythmias (abnormal heartbeats), which can lead to sudden death. Omega-3 fatty acids also decrease triglyceride levels and lowers blood pressure. It also contains essential vitamins like vitamin D and B2 in good amounts. More to these, Fish is rich in calcium (essential for bones and teeth health), phosphorus, iron (blood building), zinc, iodine, magnesium and potassium.
Fish and all it contains helps improve Skin and Hair health. One of the biggest drawbacks to a low-fat diet is you often deprive your skin and hair of the healthy fat it needs, leaving it dull and dry. The omega-3s in fish are exactly the type of healthy fat to eat to keep your skin looking nourished and your hair shiny. Research has also linked fish and omega-3 consumption to treatment of skin conditions such as psoriasis. It also helps to ease depression. Several studies have found that when taken along with prescription antidepressant medications, the omega-3s in fish are more effective at treating depression than just the prescription medication alone.
It is interesting to note also that fish boosts Brain Development. The EFA (Essential Fatty Acids) omega-3 found in fish are essential nutrients for children because they contribute to brain development. Some studies have even found that omega-3 consumption can help soothe symptoms of ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) in children.
An unexpected twist to the discovery on fish is this. It builds stronger sperm. A recent study of 188 men found that those who ate more fresh fish — along with other healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains — had stronger swimmers than those who ate unhealthy diets. Although, researchers say that more study needs to be done, but preliminary data shows that the better the participant’s diet, the stronger the shape and mobility of the sperm he produced.
Well, eat fish, take fish oil supplements… YOUR HEALTH MATTERS.

Nice one. We are so blessed with highly nutritous foods and i see no reason why more than half of the population should be obese.

sweet potatoes
plantains
bananas
wild rice (ofada rice)
Pawpaw
Walnuts(sperm-booster)
Tigernuts(sperm-booster).
They are just so many.
