Latest research by Campus Portal Nigeria revealed that the latest Nigeria University Ranking is out with Covenant University, Ota topping the list of best Universities in Nigeria. The Ranking was obtained from the 2015 webometrics World University Ranking results.

The Ranking Web of Universities (Webometrics) is a rank of world universities web presence. Since 2004, the Ranking Web (or Webometrics Ranking) is published twice a year (data is collected during the first weeks of January and July for being public at the end of both months), covering more than 20,000 Higher Education Institutions worldwide. We intend to motivate both institutions and scholars to have a web presence that reflect accurately their activities. If the web performance of an institution is below the expected position according to their academic excellence, university authorities should reconsider their web, open access and transparency policy, promoting substantial increases of the volume and quality of their electronic publications.

I'm happy for newbie Covenant University for this achievement but OAU rocks!!!

An important fact from all these lists is that Nigeria's top 5 universities are OAU, UNILAG, UNILORIN, UI and CU. There's therefore the possibility that these universities would also make top 5 list when other academic criteria (research, quality of lecturers, facilities) are used.

From CU's ranking progress over the past years (20th (2010) to 1st (2015)), I believe it will be the first to break the Top 1000 list in the world.

True, we know. But don't you think that the fact that the top 20 universities in the world by Times Higher Ranking (THE) are also in the Top 25 list by Webometrics might indicate a correlation between excellence in webometrics and actual academic and research excellence? Just so you know, Webometrics also ranked Harvard, MIT and Stanford as the world's top 3 (Just like other more elaborate and respected ranking bodies have done for the 2015 year).

How organized a school is online can go along way in determining how good they are on ground. We are no longer in the analogue age.

That moment you realise Lagos State university isn't on the list??
