Stephen Keshi has confirmed reports he has been approached by the Burkina Faso Football Federation (Fédération Burkinabé de Foot-Ball,FBF) to replace former Les Étalons (The Stallions) manager Paul Put, who was fired in the aftermaths of Burkina Faso first round exit at the Africa Cup of Nations Equatorial Guinea 2015.

The 2013 AFCON runners-up only managed a single point in their Group A, losing 0-2 to Gabon before securing a goalless draw against Equatorial Guinea and suffering another 1-2 defeat to Congo.

FBF president,Colonel Sita Sangaré had early this week revealed at a press conference that Keshi is among several high profile coaches who have applied for the vacant post.He listed Frenchmen Claude Le Roy and Alain Giresse who took Congo and Senegal respectively to the Africa Cup of Nations which ended last Sunday in Equatorial Guinea.

Sangaré added that a 3-candidate shortlist will be announced on Monday, 16 February, with a final decision to be taken within the next three weeks.

Former France coach Jacques Santini and former Gabon and Niger boss Gernot Rohr also joined the race.

‘Yes,I was approached by the FBF for the vacant position but I have not decided yet on the right direction to take,”said Keshi via a telephone conversation.

Though Keshi has been offered a two-year deal by the Nigeria Football Federation with a reduced salary. He earned N5m a month in his previous contract but the NFF,according to our impeccable source in Abuja cannot afford to pay the big boss the same amount because of its dwindling fortunes due to the unfavourable economic climate plauging the country ocassioned by the austerity measures introduced by the Federal Government following the drop in the price of crude oil in the international market.
