Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission have arrested Abdul-Aziz Nyako, the son of
impeached Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako.
The Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson
Uwujaren, said in a statement on Friday that Abdul-Aziz
was picked up by EFCC operatives in Gombe.
Uwujaren said former governor’s son was immediately
flown to Abuja “where he is currently being grilled by a
crack team of detectives, who had been working on the
Adamawa investigation for several months.”
The EFCC had declared Nyako and his son wanted for
money laundering-related offences two weeks ago.
Uwujaren said Abdul-Aziz was being grilled in relation
with how N15bn, belonging to the Adamawa State
Government, was laundered through five accounts of
companies belonging to him.
The said companies under investigation, the commission
said, were Blue Opal Nigeria limited, Crust Energy
Nigeria Limited, Blue Ribbon Multilinks Limited, Tower
Assets Management Limited and Blue Ribbon Bureau De
Change.
The EFCC spokesman said the money was moved into
the accounts of the companies domiciled in a new
generation bank with the help of the manager, who is
also an in-law to Nyako.
It was stated that the Accounts Officer was quizzed and
released on bail.
