ABUJA, Nigeria—With his oil-powered economy faltering and just five weeks to go before he faces a close election, Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan is appealing to the U.S. to send combat troops against his country’s most intractable problem: the Islamist insurgency Boko Haram.

The 57-year-old president of Africa’s largest democracy said in an interview that he has been asking the U.S. since early 2014 to send combat soldiers along with military advisers to Nigeria to battle Boko Haram. Citing intelligence reports, he said the militants were receiving “training and funds” from Islamic State, the jihadist group whose leadership is based in Iraq and Syria.

“Are they not fighting ISIS? Why can’t they come to Nigeria?” Mr. Jonathan said, in his first interview with Western media this year. “Look, they are our friends. If Nigeria has a problem, then I expect the U.S. to come and assist us.”

In Washington, Rear Adm. John Kirby, the Pentagon press secretary, said there are no plans to unilaterally send U.S. troops to Nigeria. But he said the U.S. is discussing its participation in a multinational task force with African nations to assist Nigeria. The task force will be designed to help build up Nigeria’s own counterterrorism capabilities, he said.

Just day before yesterday, the F.G warned US to stay out of Nigeria's issues, and now they want their help? Really? Like, seriously? The clueless one is truly confused.

We say No to the U.S Army!If not for political Bigotry and Tribal Jingoism, wasn't the Nigerian Army known as One of the best in the world(even in the absence Of requisite weapons and sophistication)?now,GEJ,together with his apologists av abruptly meandered our Military into a thing Of mockery that work in the favour Of some people and sentiments!this Is ofcourse, the greatest harm that can happen to A nation's Democracy!the citizen's of Rwanda,CAR,etc, would live to tell the generation unborn what the harm Her government subjected them to!
I do not but weep each time I see our Fallen soldiers online!
And some people claimed they should be exterminated for mutiny!would u av allowed ur loved one to go for such in the absence of safety-assurance weapons??yet others tag them 'cowards'
Hell No!
We say NO To military politicking!!!
We say NO To incompetence in governance!!!
We say NO To Ethno-religious Division!!!
All we want is a Nigeria with Unity in diversity!!!
All we clamour For is CHANGE!!!
