It isn't surprising that most digs at PDP have this news site as its source. However, I'm not taken into their antics. They prey on the distrust the common Nigerian man always harbour for the leaders to release juicy tidbits for the unsuspecting but eager less-informed of the public to gobble up hook, line and sinker.
A nairalander listed five open secrets Sahara Reporters revealed that turned out to be true (which we already guessed). In response, I will be giving ten 'malicious' news carried by Sahara Reporters.

1. Sahara Reporters reported that Stella Oduah claimed to have schooled at St. Paul's College in the U.S. The news site also claimed to have called the 'authorities' at the school who confirmed that Stella Oduah never attended the school.
THE TRUTH: An organization, NLM, decided to take up the matter after the CV she submitted to the Senate was shown not to contain any such information. The authorities at St. Paul also said they never gave out such information to anyone, saying a subpoena would be required before such can happen.

2. Sahara Reporters reported that Tinubu was blackmailed by Jonathan to withdraw from the 2011 elections.
THE TRUTH: Known as an anti-PDP newspaper, this was an attempt to paint Tinubu a victim and PDP the villain. But instead, it made Tinubu appear as the 'inconsiderate' one for forsaking his party ambition. It also made little sense as Tinubu, if blackmailed, couldn't possible spearhead APC merger. Finally, Tinubu's lawyer moved to debunk the claim as a careless rumour.

3. Sahara Reporters reported that Ngozi Okonjo Iweala pressured THISDAY publisher, Nduka Obaigbena to sack Saturday Editor, Lawrence Ani. They also reported that Ani had gone on a compulsory leave as a result.
THE TRUTH: On the day mentioned, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala was actually on a flight on her way back from the U.S. The publisher affirmed his willigness to make it public that such allegations were false and the bemused Lawrence Ani found it quite funny.

4. Sahara Reporters reported that Tinubu didn't attend the University of Chicago. It was also reported that he had pending criminal case in the US as well as a criminal suit number, FHC/ABJ/CR/04/2011 in Nigeria.
THE TRUTH: The letter returned by the University had his name spelt as 'Tinubo'. If a check was run on that name, it would surely turn up empty. Quite a clever cut but it was noticed. Also, the IG contacted the U.S. and no suit whatsoever was found attached to Tinubu's name. Finally, the suit number provided was non-existent in the Federal High Court.
5. Sahara Reporters reported that President Jonathan had attended the UN General Assembly in New York with 600 members in his entourage.
THE TRUTH: It turned out that the attendees from Nigeria were not up to 30, including the president himself. How and Why the figure became quite inflated, one could never guess.

6. Sahara Reporters reported that Amy Adedevoh, sister of the late Dr. Adadevoh, tested positive for Ebola.
THE TRUTH: Commissioner for Health in Lagos State, Jide Idris, dismissed that report to be false, saying she only showed symptoms of the virus but after tests were carried out on her, she was negative.

7. Sahara Reporters reported the Minister, her team and Nigerians in Diaspora as being unpatriotic, sitting down when the National Anthem was going on.
THE TRUTH: The association had earlier asked the NYPD to evict Sowore Omoleye (Owner of Sahara Reporters) and his friends for sabotaging the aim of the meeting. Sahara Reporters then released the fake video which showed them sitting while the anthem was on. The association released the full video which ran from the beginning till the end of the meeting.

8. Sahara Reporters reported 'Beauty vs Brains' to report a situation in a Unilag function where winners in a debate were given petty cash and computer while a beauty pageant went home with a car, showing which they valued more.
THE TRUTH: The organizers of the competition had come out to clarify that while the Director of Students' Affairs had organized the debates, the beauty pageant competition was organized by an independent outfit, 'Sulcata Entertainment' and was titled 'Beauty Brains'.

9. Sahara Reporters reported that protesters interrupts the celebrations organized by the Organization for Advancement of Nigerians to mark Nigeria's independence in New York.
THE TRUTH: The Organization counters "A group of 5 protesters led by Sahara Reporters editors had come in with placards but were totally ignored by the thousands of flag waving Nigerians at the rally.
Even when one of the officials wanted to chase away the Sahara Reporters editors and their hirelings, the Minister of Information intervened and asked that they be allowed to express their opinions as Nigeria was a democratic country where citizens were free to express themselves. When they found that Nigerians were hostile to their show of shame against their country in America, they quickly abandoned the venue even before the official ceremony could begin."

I can't say which is more befitting for this No. 10 spot: The 100 Gold Independence iPhones or The Ephraim Emeka Ugwuonye (Esq.) testimony
