I refer to marketable skills as those you can exchange for monetary compensation and that are usually in high demand by buyers and employers.

So it’s not just enough to have a skill; you should be able to figure out how to make money with it by creating or rendering quality and valuable products and services.

If you are still in school now, one of the very important questions you should begin ponder on is this: outside of my certificate, what else can I do to make a living after school?

Most graduates on the streets today are frustrated because they cannot answer this same question satisfactorily.

Why You Should Acquire Marketable Skills

Whether you are toeing the path of self-employment or paid-employment, the need for developing marketable skills cannot be stressed enough.

a.) You need marketable skills to be able to compete and stand out in the labour market.

One question that is often asked in job interviews is: “What can you do?” Such a question is meant to know how valuable a prospective employee would be to the organization. So before you walk into the interview room, or the marketplace, be sure to ask and answer that question.

b.) You need marketable skills to capitalize on in the event that you could not secure a job immediately after school to fend for yourself. Life after school can be agonizing when you no longer get regular pocket money, without a job and without a steady source of income.

c.) You need marketable skills to be able to create and live a lifestyle of your making. With steady flow of money from your ventures, you may decide to ditch paid employment, run your own things your own way.
