The Terrible Mistakes Of President Jonathan Worsened Boko Haram Insurgency by IbileIfe: 11:08am On Feb 19, 2015
Part 1.

“In discussing the relationship between national security and development, let me say that one cannot do without the other,” the NSA said.“The issue of violence did not increase in Nigeria until when there was a declaration by the current president that he was going to contest. PDP got it wrong from the beginning. The party started by saying Mr. A can rule, and Mr. B cannot rule, according to PDP conventions, rules and regulations and not according to the constitution. That created the climate for what is happening or manifesting itself in country. Is it possible that somebody was thinking that only Mr. A could win, and if he did not win, he could cause a problem in the society.
“Let’s examine all these issues to see whether the level of violence in the North East just escalated because Boko Haram suddenly became better trained, better equipped and better funded, or something else was responsible.”
Mr. Azazi, whose views were supported by the Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, said the Boko Haram problem would be difficult to resolve without the various stakeholders coming together to address, holistically, the issues that gave fillip to its existence.
“It takes very long for somebody to be a sniper,” Mr. Azazi said.

~ General Owoye Andrew Azazi CFR FSS MSS DSS GSS psc, (1 February 1952 – 15 December 2012), former National Security Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria. During the tenure of former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo he was appointed Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of Nigeria.

For saying the bitter truth, President Goodluck Jonathan sacked Gen. Azazi and later the great general was killed in a mysterious helicopter crash on December 15, 2012.
Those who gave President Jonathan the bad advice to sack Azazi never meant good for him and Nigeria.

As National Security Adviser, Azazi worked with other countries, notably African neighbors, European countries and the United States, toward developing a new security and counterterrorism strategy. In the autumn of 2010, he met with then-CIA Director Leon Panetta at CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia. In August 2011, Azazi held meetings with US AFRICOM Commander Gen. Carter F. Ham about American training and sharing intelligence to combat Boko Haram and Niger Delta extremists.[6] He attended a CIA event in California in November.[7] On Christmas Day, 2011, the White House confirmed that U.S. officials had been in communication with top Nigerian officials to combat terrorism.

On 15 December 2012 Azazi died along with Governor Yakowa of Kaduna state in a naval helicopter crash in Okoroba Village of Bayelsa State while on their way back to the Port-Harcourt Airport from the funeral of Oronto Douglas's father.

The sacking and untimely death of Azazi worsened the Boko Haram insurgency, because no better replacement has been found and the incompetence of the others has been glaring with the insurgents on rampage besieging villages and towns; attacking and killing thousands of people and destroying properties along the way with more than 3.3 million Nigerians now displaced as refugees in the neighboring countries of Cameroon, Chad and Niger and as internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Nigeria. And the government cannot even guaranty the security and welfare of the IDPs with reported cases of child and sex trafficking of underage girls in the IDPs camps.

If Azazi was not sacked, he would have been alive doing his best in combating the terrorists and the Boko Haram would not have been so daring and devastating that for a while it was like the Nigerian Armed Forces have gone AWOL, and Boko Haram would not have been able to attack and kidnap more than 270 school girls from their dormitory at night on April 14, 2014 in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State.
