Ever since we were children, we’ve been told countless times to pursue our dreams, and to fight for what we want in life.

However, since our goals can sometimes seem unattainable, we tend to find reasons to justify our lack of action.

Here are 6 common excuses we make, and why to reconsider them:

1. “I don’t have enough time.”

Nobody has enough time. We’re all frantically running around our daily activities, attempting to get through our daily tasks without wanting to jump off the nearest bridge.

It may seem impossible at first, but you have to gradually establish a manageable balance based on what is most important to you.

By then, you’ll realize that time isn’t the real issue holding you back from what you want – it’s all a matter of priorities.

2. “I’m scared I’ll mess up.”

Honestly, you probably will. We’ve all made mistakes, and we’re also more knowledgeable because of them.

However, over the years I’ve learned to accept that it’s critical to push yourself in life to effectively grow.

If you constantly let your fear get in the way of trying new things, you’ll never make progress toward where you hope to ultimately be.

So take a deep breath and try.

3. “I’ll start tomorrow.”

What’s wrong with right now? The longer you delay, the longer your journey will inevitably be.

Plus, the more you procrastinate, the more likely the chance you’ll end up saying, “Eh – it’s just too difficult” and giving up.

So resist the urge to put it off, and start today before your motivation dissipates. You can only binge watch so many shows on season films, after all.

4. “I wouldn’t even know where to begin.”

Just because you commit to a goal doesn’t mean you have to jump right in with no plan or sense of direction.

Instead, start small – it’s helpful to break down your plan into sections, and realistically consider the time commitment for each task.

Plus, by having a more logical approach, your dreams won’t seem as far out of reach.

5. “It’s too late now.”

Or is it? We often feel that we are unable to turn around once we’ve gone down a certain path.

However, you always have the power to change your direction. It doesn’t matter how much time you’ve invested in something else – if it’s really important to you, you’ll find a way.

6. “I’m comfortable – why change things?”

Venturing outside of our comfort zone isn’t easy. If there aren’t any significant problems with a situation, we typically prefer to leave things as they are. This is okay – to an extent.

However, if you really want something, your passion will start to override your comfort level. So don’t fight the possibility of change – embrace it.

Although our dreams can initially seem unachievable, the first step is to have faith in our own capabilities. This involves thinking positively, and focusing on taking initiative – not thinking about all of the potential setbacks. By limiting our excuses, we can expedite the process, and finally turn “I can’t” into “I will.”
