EFCC probes Abia Gov

Umuahia—ECONOMIC and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has responded to the invitation of Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State to probe him.

Orji had about two months ago invited the two anti-crime bodies, EFCC and ICPC to investigate various allegations, including money laundering leveled against him by a magazine. In his letters to them, he said he would waive his immunity to enable them probe him.

He also asked them to make public whatever their findings could be. The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Sam Hart confirmed to Vanguard that the EFCC had interviewed the governor on the various allegations.

Hart said the EFFC had requested Orji to choose a venue for the interview. The governor, he said, chose Abuja and the interview took place but the anti-crime body also insisted on coming to Umuahia which he said they were obliged and they also interviewed the governor in Umuahia. Hart said that Orji still reminded the EFCC of his request to make the result of their investigations public.

Meanwhile, Governor Orji has warned that any contractor in the State that fails to perform to the satisfaction of the government will have his contract terminated. He gave the warning while inspecting the progress of work on the resurfacing of Calabar Street in Umuahia being handled by Yuba Quality Services (Nig) Ltd
