A group known as the New Generation Forum (NGF) has called on Nigerians to vote massively for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, saying the former military leader has what it takes to rebuild Nigeria and take the country to the zenith of development.

NGF, an APC pressure group, added that the controversy surrounding Buhari school result is a scheme to discredit him, “but he (Buhari) is strong and can handle the situation, as the planned controversy is a sign that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has conceded defeat.”

The convener of the forum, Azeem Owe, who made the call when politicians in Lagos State mustered at his residence in Itire, Surulere, to celebrate his 62-birthday anniversary, recently, said Nigerians should vote for Buhari because “in the past six years, Nigeria, under the leadership of President Goodluck Jonathan, has not known peace. There has been high level of insecurity resulting from insurgency in the North-east region.

“This will come to an end as soon as Buhari takes over as the president because he has done it before when he was the military head of state, when he chased insurgents out of Nigeria back to Chad.

“Also, before Buhari took over from the Shehu Shagari’s administration, the country was in serious economic and political crises, but when he came in, he sanitised and brought discipline to the country, so if he wins the next election, all the stories of corruption, stealing of crude oil, kidnapping, economic sabotage, insecurity will be occurrence of the past, and this is why Nigerians must vote for Buhari as their leader.”

Reiterating that Buhari is the candidate that will bring change into the Nigerian system, Owe said Buhari and Idiagbon instilled discipline in the system then, “Just as what this dispensation needs now. Our country is in dire need of a leader with the will of Buhari.

“He is experienced, articulate and a realist who we believe will bring the change to the way things are done in the system.”

The convener of the forum, who is also an APC chieftain in the state, however told THISDAY that though the PDP gubernatorial candidate in the state, Jimi Agbaje, is his friend, the state doesn’t need change, rather it needs continuity, “which we believe Akinwumi Ambode is capable of keeping.”

Ambode is an experienced accountant who has been with and contributed immensely to the state government. He will continue with the good works the incumbent government of governor Babatunde Fashola is doing. We know him; he will never disappoint us,

“It is worthy of note that the current mood of disenchantment among Nigerians is not new in the country’s history, what is paramount is the re-assessment of certain beclouding parameter.

“And how do we reassess? Let us all go back to the drawing board, let us reminiscent and not forget the freedom we enjoyed before the PDP-led federal government.

“Is this how we are going to continue? No, therefore Nigeria really need a change, and that change is Buhari because we are tired of Jonathan-led government.

“It has been tested and confirmed that Buhari, if voted for as the president, would force change in the system, sanitise and instill discipline and uprightness in Nigeria, particularly the corrupt public officers in the system.”
