Lets face it guys, who so ever manufactured that smartphone you own right away has employed one of these brands if it is a high end smartphone. The processor ( coupled with the graphic chipset ) is the base support for almost every function and ancillaries availed by a smartpnone. ARM, Exynos, qualcom or intel. which of them is killing it right now?

@OP, remove ARM from that list. It is an abomination. ARM hold the patents to the inventions and Innovation for mobile processors on almost all the mobile devices. Intel even bows to The Might of ARM Holdings. |

In computing architecture they re two types of processor: 1) RISC( ARM based eg qualcom,exynos,nvidia,apple A-series and mediatek)...they are basically used for mobile device,they consume low power and they dow allow keyboard and mouse etc...dats y android and ios devices dont come with keyboard and mouse and battery last longer.......operating system like windows phone,rim,android and ios uses this architecture 2)CISC(intel x-86....predominately intel and AMD processors)they re used in computers,consume power.examples are mac os,windows and linus. martineverest: ARM Holdings Liscenses patents and processor designs to the likes of Qualcomm, MediaTek etc. Intel has been trying to break into the Smartphones space for long but meet with failure everytime. Sometime ago, Intel went as far getting ARM processor design just to break into that mobile platform. |

Randerl:ARM and intel are different companies. while your claim on patents might be true, ARM is responsible for for the cortex chip and intel is responsible for the atom chip in the mobile world. |

hothuntee: The HTC m9 is to run on MediaTek, maybe some Meizu mx4 Xiaomi mi4 The mtk6795 dwarfs the Snapdragon 810 and its bettered only by Samsung 's new Exynos chipset The mtk6752 beat the Snapdragon 615 in the mid-range smartphones. When you’re choosing a smartphone or tablet, you’ll notice that some models use Intel Atom processors, while others are based on the competing ARM architecture. This latter camp includes the Samsung Exynos, Qualcomm Snapdragon, Nvidia Tegra and Apple A7 platforms.Both families of chips are designed for low-power operation, to give mobile devices the long battery life they need. Technically, however, they represent different philosophies: the ARM architecture is designed to be as simple aspossible, to keep energy wastage to a minimum, whereas Intel’s Atom range uses a more complex design that benefits from compatibility with the company’s (much more power-hungry) desktop and laptop CPUs. It's also worth noting that ARM has been powering portable devices for decades, while Intel is a relative newcomer to this area. I strongly believe for compatibility, ARM is the current leader in terms of mobile processors. ARM’s partners have shipped 50 billion chips based on its designs, all for mobile and embedded markets. For Android, ARM is the de-facto standard and this leads to a problem for Intel and MIPS. Although Android uses Java as its principal programming language, it also allows programmers to take their existing code (in C or C++, for example) and create apps. These “native” apps are generally compiled for ARM processors and not always for Intel or MIPS. To get around this Intel need to use special translation software which converts the ARM instructions into code for their processors. This of course impacts performance. At the moment Intel can claim about a 90% compatibilitywith all the apps available in the Play Store. That figure is probably closer to 100% when dealing with the top 150 apps. On the one-hand that is a good coverage, but on the other hand it shows ARM’s dominance in that the other processor designers need to offer a completely new or different compatibility layer for the Operating System. |

And With 5.5, 5.7 and 6 inch phablets becoming main stream devices, you can expect the market for tabs to slow down. Then, for the windows tabs, the game is in the number. If is not selling like Android and iDevices, then it is all wash. |

hothuntee: I bet you are fully aware of the sales figures for both devices. The game is in their numbers and global appeal. Drain on batteries is a key issue for smartphones and tablets. Historically, Intel has come up with powerful processors but paid little attention to battery life. martineverest: Intel will win some share in handsets, and more in Windows tablets, but this will be limited, however, by competition from ARM’s many partners. Also, remember that ARM based devices are gaining 2% to 3% share in markets outside mobile every year. |
