Government activities in Ogun State were
paralysed on Tuesday as the civil servants
stayed away from work in compliance with the
three-day warning strike ordered by the Joint
National Public Service Negotiating Council.
The council last Friday directed its members to
embark on a three-day warning strike from
Tuesday to protest government’s failure to remit
about N2.8bn deducted from their salaries to the
appropriate agencies.
The directive for the workers to proceed on the
strike was given by the JNC’s Secretary, Mr.
Modiu Bello, at a press briefing held at the Iwe
Iroyin Press Centre, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta.
The warning strike will end on Thursday
(tomorrow).
When our correspondent visited the Oke Mosan
secretariat complex, Abeokuta, only top
government officials were present in their offices.
Bello, who was in company with other officials of
different unions, said the council resorted to
embark on the strike action following the failure
of all known channels of negotiation.
He added that the three-day warning strike by
public servants “is to drive home our demands”
for the remittance of the four-month deductions
made from their October, November, December
and January salaries.
However, the Head of Service, Mrs Modupe
Adekunle, described the strike as a shock to the
government as they were not duly informed.
She noted that the inability of the state
government to pay the deductions “was as a
result of a sharp shortfall in federal allocation to
the state.”
Adekunle assured that government would pay the
deductions before the end of the week.
The state chairman of the Nigeria Union of
Teachers, Mr. Dare Ilekoya, frowned at the action
of teachers in public primary and secondary
schools who joined the strike.
He directed all teachers in the state to return to
classes, stressing that “the union is not part of
the JNC.”
Ilekoya explained that the NUT would have
joined the strike if the Nigeria Labour Congress
had given the directive. www.punchng.com/news/ogun-workers-commence-three-day-strike/

But what's going on in the APC dominant states....yesterday, Osun state workers held a demonstration. This aint the kind of change Nigerians are yearning for now.

Change is when ogun, osun are owing their civil servant salaries...

Transformation is when benue refuses to pay its civil servant their salaries...

The bottomline is the above governors have failed, and should be held responsible for this failure, and not the blame shift tactics all of them use when they fail to live-up to their constitutional expectation...

That said i wait for some peeps to come here and start blaming GEJ for this gross failure, we are in trouble in this country...SMH

Ogun isn't owing salaries.

The slowpokes who posted before me should learn to read an assimilate.

For clarity, what is owed is remittance of deductions from salaries e.g. PAYE, Pensions contributions, Union Dues e.t.c.

These are owed due to the sharp drop in the Federal Allocation, an unforeseen circumstance, which is been addressed.

On the other hand, why the drop in the allocation? GEJ & Ngozi have diverted funds for campaigns

One would assume all is well in PDP states concerning salary payment when one know the latest protest especially in Osun was engineered and sponsored by PDP and it assumption that painting those governors in bad light will sway votes for them.

Workers are protesting in Osun and you have just 50people on the street as if only those few are the ones in the State civil service. Those are PDP members not Osun Workers. Workers won't protest without their union flags and uniforms.

How many months is Gabriel Suswan owing his Workers in Benue? Which month did Idris wada last paid civil servants in Kogi? akwa ibom with its huge allocation had civil servants going on 3weeks strike for non payment of their salary, Jonah jang is owing workers in.Plateau, JonaTAN is owing some Federal Agencies almost 3months salary, mimiko is owing salary since October 2014 for some ministries in ondo, martin elechi is owing in Ebonyi and many others govs in PDP controlled states but they will keep quiet and say Aregbesola is owing like he is diverting the monies to his private account.

The PDP using bribes and settlement to force some its members parading as civil servants to try embarrass the govs in the SW to swerve public opinion, sorry its not working, the PDP and JonaTAN won't win one SW state on the 28th of March except INEC does not use PVCs. In the SW it is anything but JonaTAN, he can continue his dollar rain of foolishness thinking money buyeth all things.

Ogun is not owing salaries, they could not find excuse, they say he is holding deductions that isn't going to the workers salary, let him pay the deduction then and stop their salaries since the deduction is paramount to them.

Which state isn't feeling the impact of the huge reduction in allocation aside Lagos State.
