The answer is 27.
This is how I arrived at the above answer.

First I form three equations
x+y=10............(1)
x+z=20............ (2)
y+z=24..............(3)

from (1). y=10-x.......(4)
from (3). z=24-y........(5)


substitute equation 4 into equation 5
z=24-(10-x)
z=14+x..............(6)
From equation (2) z=20-x............(7)

Since z=14+x in (6) and z=20-x in (7)

they are both the same. thus equating equations 6 and 7

20-x=14+x
2x=20-14
x=3.

substitute x=3 in equation (1)
y=10-3
y=7
and substitute x=3 in equation (2)
z=20-3
z=17.
so, x=3, y=7. and. z=17


Proof: Substitute y=7 and z=17. in equation (2)
7+17=24.......


So, the total weight of the three of them equals
3+7+17=27.


With this simple analogy, I hope I've been able to convince and not confuse you that the total weight of the three animals equals 27kg.
