The General Elections for 2015 is less than 20 days away, and even though the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC ) extended polls by a six-week period, the All Progressives Congress does not appear to be adequately prepared. Chieftains of the APC have been embroiled in one media imbroglio or another for several weeks back now and this has diverted its campaign energy into image laundering. If it isn’t Buhari in the news for reasons concerning his health or over claims of affiliation to an institution he never attended, it’s Bola Tinubu or Amaechi slinging mud at the public in attempts at covering up their fraudulent tracks. A few weeks ago, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former governor of Lagos State and a chieftain of the APC, was exposed in a video documentary that detailed his unwholesome track record while he held sway as the governor of the state and continues to hold Lagosians ransom through monolithic looting of the state’s treasury. Even more worrisome is the fact that Tinubu has been able to perpetuate his fraud through proxies despite leaving public office almost eight years ago without being challenged by Lagosians. His attempt at forcing another proxy in the person of Akinwunmi Ambode to replace Babatunde Fashola has been interpreted as a mere changing of clothes. In the video documentary expose on Tinubu, it was revealed how the former Lagos Governor cornered a multi-billion road construction job in Ogun State. Tinubu effectively has succeeded in pocketing all the juicy contracts in Lagos State and other APC controlled states. Not only that; he keeps a steady stream of income from those states as well. However difficult it is to imagine how a single individual was able to hold the entire south west to ransom, the scary truth is that Tinubu perfected his fraudulent game a long time ago, hoodwinking the Yoruba nation into perceiving him as a reincarnation of Obafemi Awolowo. It can be recalled that Tinubu even had billboards across Lagos State with his own image juxtaposed with that of Mahatma Ghandi and Obafemi Awolowo – just for effect – to give the impression that he is a man of the people and a progressive. If Tinubu proved to be progressive at anything, it is in the looting of public treasury and enslaving the Yoruba nation as records have shown. How majority of the Yoruba nation remains blind to this still baffles the sane mind, despite the region’s reputation as the most educated in the country. . Whenever someone in Lagos begins to wonder where their 4th mainland bridge went, or what was the fate of the pipe-borne water project, or even where the schools and hospitals had vanished to, there is a silence that contains it all. The largest landlord in Lagos has done as he has pleased, and the rest of the state just has to deal with it. For instance: Number 4, Oyinkan Abayomi (formerly Queens) Drive, Ikoyi: A 5-bedroom detached house on one acre of land which was originally the Lagos State Governor’s guest house since 1979, but which now belongs to Tinubu. The certificate of occupancy of the property valued at N450 million was signed and released to him by Fashola in 2007 shortly after he assumed office. Investigations revealed that Tinubu’s current residence at 26 Bourdillon Road, Ikoyi was falsely presented as Oando Plc Guest House. Later, he purportedly bought it from Oando and used funds from Lagosians to rebuild and renovate it. The Lagos State Government bought the property and paid an undisclosed sum to him and thereafter gave the property back to him under the bogus Pension Bill he signed to law just before he left office in 2007. The property is worth over N600 million. Besides other fraudulent acquisitions of Tinubu, which run into billions of naira, thus making him a monopolistic owner of Lagos’ choicest estates, Tinubu, with the aid of Fashola, his proxy, made other the following acquisitions through Prince Dipo Eludoyin, a front for purchasing the properties: • The 3.8-hectare of land of Lagos State Fisheries office in Victoria Island (beside the Institute of Oceanography) valued at N3billion. • The fishery landing jetty at Badore (where the Ilubirin fishermen were to be relocated) valued at N500million. • The entire Ogudu foreshore scheme initially earmarked for a low-cost housing scheme and valued at N5billion. • The Ilubinrin housing estate (which used to house Lagos state civil servants and judges up till 2007) valued at N2.5billion. • Former Julius Berger yard at Oko Orisan, Epe valued at N450million. It has also been discovered that Tinubu raised a loan of N4.7billion on Eko Akete project for which nothing was achieved before he turned around to sell the property to the Chagouris (Lebanese nationals with business interests in Nigeria) at a ridiculously low price. While these exposition on Tinubu’s wanton gluttony are enough reasons to bring the APC campaign trail into confusion, the recent outburst of Femi Fani-Kayode regarding threats to his life by Bola Tinubu is another source of worry to the camp. Fani-Kayode raised alarm just last week regarding threats to his life while warning Tinubu not to mistake him for Funsho Williams, the late engineer and major opposition to Tinubu’s camp some years ago until he was murdered in cold blood in mysterious circumstances. Also, the worrisome state of health of the APC presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and his inability to back up claims to his secondary school certificate is an issue that has refused to abate despite media propaganda by the APC. Allegations of gross abuse of human rights and blatant flouting of the law by Buhari during his military regime and unapologetic stance also continues to cast a shadow of shame over his presidential ambition. Even though Buhari has been trying to position himself as someone with zero tolerance for corruption, evidences around him have shown otherwise. Recently, his wife announced the donation of materials worth N135 million to internally displaced persons in Adamawa State, which has raised questions regarding where she got such huge amount from, particularly given her husband’s earlier claim to being unable to afford the N27.5 million presidential nomination form. Also, Governor Rotimi Amaechi, regarded as the official ATM of the party, is under the public eye for no other reason than diverting huge amount from state coffers into promoting the presidential ambition of Tinubu. Some have estimated that the Rivers State Governor has spent nothing less than 15 billion in total towards the APC presidential objective. These issues and other grave allegations of fraud continue to pit the APC against its loyalists who are increasingly having doubts about the ability of Buhari to perform creditably on his sole agenda of stemming corruption if elected into office. As such, Nigerians are wondering what manner of change, really, that the APC intends to bring into governance if its chieftains are notorious for committing fraud against the masses. source: http://nigerians4change.com/2015/03/12/apc-in-disarray/ |
