Change is an outcome of a process. It took 25year for Singapore to transform from the third world to first world. Becoming the first world is the expected change. The change of power is what the APC is advocating, but their followers are mistaking it for an instant improvement to their lifestyle. It is not. The APC if it wins the election will attempt to secure change through transformation. Change without transformation is nothing. A lasting change is only possible when the people and the system undergoes transformation. Before the coming of Jonathan, what most of our leaders did was to create little change by treating the symptoms of our ailments. For instance, they provide jobs simply by blotting the civil service, but failed to create jobs, they repair roads, but failed to build and maintain the rail system. They have forgotten that railways is the cheapest means of domestic transportation and the most durable. No country can maintain a good road system without the backup of railway. The same is applicable to agriculture and other sectors.
The current issues in Nigeria calls for good understanding. Nigeria made so much monies under Babangida, Abacha, and Olusegun Obasanjo but nothing was done to create a productive base for the nation. Babangida squandered the windfall and Abacha's PTF was run as a one–man show by no other person other than GMB. The PTF was run in such an ad-hoc manner that it forgot Osun state in its programme.
Now the quest for change that is ongoing will not be adequately reviewed without recourse to certain missing gaps. Why did the PDP fail to create change? Of the 15years in power, Obasanjo spent 8years in power and the period was characterised with massive fraud and corruption. But the government had a saving grace in that oil price kept rising throughout his stay in power. That period was the most appropriate for Nigeria to have embarked on the buildup of her productive base. Though, he did well by paying off the nation's debt. Though there are still different schools of thought on that. obasanjo's failure to use the Staggering fund at his disposal was informed by his sit–tight plan which eventually didn't work.
The role of the Nigeria' Governors Forum during Obasanjo Era and afterwards was inimical to Nigeria present state. Olusegun obasanjo allowed the Governors to congregate, and became so much empowered such that the forum eventually constituted itself into the unofficial fourth organ of our government. They successfully worked against his third term bid and as soon as the forum realized how powerful it was, it quickly encapsulated Obasanjo's successor and virtually ran his government for him. Under Yar'Adua, the Governors forced him to squander the $22billion excess crude fund without anything to show for it. They equally used it to bargain with Jonathan and collected the left over of the fund before allowing him to assume seat after Yar'Adua demise. Of course Bukola Saraki and Rotimi Amechie spearheaded the evil machinations.
Jonathan's predicaments started when he attempted to checkmate the excesses of the Governors.
