Why is that religious folk seem to focus so much of their attention on things that we can prove were made by mankind - special books, so called holy (constructed) places, stories, philosophies and laws.

Do any of them protect things that they claim were created by their god? The natural environment; animals; the welfare of their fellow man including those who do not buy into the same dogmas as they do; their own children (in many cases); the mentality ill.

Why do the majority of religious people not make a point of protecting that which they claim was created by their god, particularly those elements that cannot defend themselves?
