Presidential election is here at last. Baring any last minute change, we will be voting in 8 days from today. The race is between General Muhamadu Buhari a former military head of state and the incumbent president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
The two candidates have their advantages and disadvantages. The problems with the two candidates campaign systems are that it is more of personalty attacks than telling the electorates what they have in stocks for the people.
Buhari is old, which is more of advantages for the nation than be a disadvantages. He is known for his forthrightness and not too flashy life styles. This two characteristics of the retired general is to the benefit of Nigeria and Nigerians if he is elected. People always point out that Buhari is surrounded by bad guys who will not allow him to function according to his personal character, I disagree with this notion.
At this stage of his life, Buhari must be conscious of what history will says about him. For him to have contested for the presidency of Nigeria for three times and failed and again offer himself for the same race the fourth time means a lot. Nigeria as a nation has always have unprepared leader since 1966 to date. Now that we have a man contesting for the fourth time to lead the country, we must not miss it.
Those who are saying Buhari is too old and may die in office are not saying the truth. Many example of leaders tha took the mantle of leadership in their 70s are many around the world. more over death is not by age. All noise about Buhari been terminally heal is a ruse that have not been proof and the man look very healthy for his age.
Buhari as a former military governor, former minister of petroleum, former head of state all these position when the man was very young and have many friends that are displaying wealth around him did not amass property for himself, how about now that age is no longer at his mercy.
We must not miss the opportunity that this period offer us to use Buhari to take this country back to the benefits of the masses.
