ABU GETS NEW VC

The Governing Council of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria yesterday announced the selection of Professor Ibrahim Garba as the new Vice Chancellor of the institution.

Announcing the appointment, chairman of the Council, Arc Muhammad Dewu, said Professor Garba emerged the new VC after what he called rigorous and transparent selection process.

According to him, following a two day interview conducted by a panel set up by the council, Professor Garba emerged the first out of the 24 professors that contested the top job of ABU.

The new VC would take over the affairs of the university in April this year when the tenure of the incumbent VC, Professor Abdullahi Mustapha, would come to an end.

Born on February 25, 1957 in Riruwai, Doguwa local government area of Kano state, Professor Garba had his first and second degrees at ABU between 1980 and 1985. He earned his Ph.D at the University of London in 1993.

Aside the various positions he had held at federal and states ministries, Professor Garba has served as the Vice Chancellor of the Kano State University of Science and Technology, Wudil. He has also served as head of department of the ABU’s Department of Geology, among many other positions.

He has to his credit numerous papers in local and international journals, apart from other publications.
