1. The Deputy Governor of Rivers state, Tele
Ikuru, on Sunday dumped the All Progressives
Congress, APC, describing the party as “a party
of rebels”.
2. Nigerian Flying Eagles, Sunday defeated host
Senegal to win the Africa under 20
championship. The only goal that soared the
Nigerian side to victory was scored by Bernard
Bulbwa in the first half of the game. Nigeria has
now won the tournament for a record of seven
times.
3. Rivers State Governor and Director-General of
the All Progressives Congress Presidential
Campaign, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has alleged that
the governorship candidate of the Peoples
Democratic Party in the state, Chief Nyesom
Wike, was giving $1m (N199m) monthly to the
wife of the President, Mrs. Patience Jonathan in
order to gain the support of the First Lady and
her husband. Amaechi raised the allegation on
Saturday at a praise and worship session
organised by the Ikwerre Youth Movement and
Ikwerre Women Forum at Isiokpo, Ikwere’s
headquarters.
4. Former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong
Victor Attah has described the Senatorial
ambition of the current Governor of the State,
Godswill Akpabio, as hypocritical and deceitful.
He also accused the State Governor of trying to
impose his candidate on Akwa Ibom people. He
openly declared his support for the APC, even
though he claimed he remained a member of the
PDP.
5. Report says Nigerian universities lecturers may
soon embark on a nationwide strike following a
recent circular by the National Universities
Commission which they said would obliterate
their agreement with the government. The Senior
Staff Association of Nigerian Universities has
consequently given the Federal Government till
Wednesday April 28, 2015, to address the issue
or it will shut down the nation’s universities.
6. President Goodluck Jonathan had in his
closing remarks during the presidential debate
organized by the Nigerian Elections Debate
Group, said that the re-scheduled dates for the
coming elections were sacrosanct, hence will not
be shifted again.
7. The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad
Abubakar III, has advised that security agencies
in the country should provide adequate
protection fo National Youth Service Corps
members that would be deployed to assist
officials of the Independent National Electoral
Commission to conduct the general elections.
The Sultan was speaking when the NYSC
Director-General, Brig-Gen. Johnson Olawumi
visited his Palace.
8. The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential
Campaign Organisation has avowed that it was
against the Inspector-General of Police, Mr.
Suleiman Abba’s order where he asked the
electorates not to stay back at the polling units
after casting their votes. The campaign group
said party supporters should stay back to monitor
their votes.
9. Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has said
that opinion polls won’t save the All Progressives
Congress from losing the March 28 and April 11
election. He said listing Ekiti state as one of the
states to be won by the APC was an extreme
deceit. He asked Nigerians to ignore what he
termed “orchestrated opinion polls.”
Amaechi’s Deputy defects to PDP, says “APC
is a party of rebels, founded on falsehood”
10. The APC has said that its decision not to
participate in the Sunday’s presidential debate
has been justified considering that President
Jonathan was reading from a script, an indication
that he was given the questions ahead of the
debate.
