Gunmen storm Ekiti lawmaker’s home

A lawmaker in Ekiti State House of Assembly, Abiola Olowookere was said to have escaped from what looked like assassination attempt in his Ado-Ekiti residence on Sunday.
The unidentified assailants were said to have stormed the lawmaker’s residence around 8:00am but met his houseboy, Reuben, who was seriously beaten by them.

According to Reuben, the vehicle in which the assailants came was parked close to the fence of Olowookere’s Ekute residence in Ado-Ekiti as early as 8:00am.

He said when he opened the gate of the house for one of the tenants to drive out of the compound, one of the occupants of the vehicle parked by the fence walked towards him and pointed an assault rifle to his head.

At this point, Reuben said the gunman asked for his boss, who he said was not around. Not convinced by his answer, the gunman, who had been joined by another five armed men, demanded to see the wife of Olowookere, who was also not at home.

Commanding Ruben to open the door to the main building, he said he lived in Boys’ Quarters and didn’t have the keys to his boss’ apartment.
In their determination, the assailants broke the door to gain entry into Olowookere’s apartment and his bedroom was also broken into.

Reuben, who said he was locked up in a room while the operation lasted, disclosed that the assailants left a message behind for his boss, promising they would come back some other day.
He said they were armed with assault rifles he identified as AK-47.

Olowookere, was said to have left Ado-Ekiti for the burial ceremony of the late mother of his counterpart in the House, Bisi Kolawole at Efon Alaaye on Saturday and didn’t return until Sunday around 10:00am.

Men from the Criminal Investigation Department of the state police command were seen at the scene of the incident.

It would be recalled that some men believed to be assassins had on January 3 killed Mr Kehinde Fasuba, General Manager (Finance and Administration) of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) at Odo-Odo area of Ado-Ekiti around 9:00pm.
