Family Cries Out For Help Over Deeper Life Forceful Possession Of Land by NEWSVERGE: 6:25pm On Mar 23, 2015
The Sofidiya family of Agbodi Village via Mowe, Obafemi Owode Local Government, Ogun State, has cried out for help over forceful takeover of their 102 acres of land by the Deeper Life Christian Ministry.

The family has also appealed to the Federal Government through the Law Enforcement Agents to come to the rescue of the family.

It was gathered that trouble had started about five years ago, when the ministry approached the Agbodi village for a land.

Consequently, the community asked that the land in question be surveyed first before actual negotiation and purchase would occur. A surveyor was brought in by Deeper Life and Deeper Life also paid advance payment of N10 million out of the N50 million requested by the land owners as owo iwoko or owo ilagbe (bush entry money).

After the surveying was completed, Deeper Life did not get back to the family.

Almost three years after with no response from the ministry on actual negotiation of the purchase price with the community, the community repossessed their land. Thereafter, the Deeper Life now petitioned the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), after investigation by SARS, it was discovered that it was purely a land matter and Deeper Life requested for time to settle with landowners as they are ready to pay for the land.

The community, through its legal firm, Tunde Popoola & Associates, made visits to the church headquater in Gbagada, Lagos, where the community met with the Land Committee of the ministry.

The committee thereafter requested the community to submit a proposal which the community obliged and sent on September 24, 2014. Another proposal was sent on October 2nd, 2014, following the rejection of the first proposal on the ground that “it did not wear a human face.” The 2nd proposal was also rejected by the committee and the 3rd proposal submitted on October 15, 2014. The 3rd proposal was also rejected.

Following “inputs” from the committee, the fourth proposal was written and submitted on November 27, 2014.

While the issue of submitting the proposal was going on, the community, feeling suspicious of the committee, took the ministry to court on September 16, 2014. The matter is currently pending before Ogun State High Court in suit No. AB/246/14. (Oluhunmi Esuruoso and 5 ords v. the incorporated trustees of Deeper Christain Life Ministry).

Meanwhile, following another fresh petition by the ministry to the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Force Headquatres, Abuja, some police team from Abuja arrested family members and other villagers on Friday 6th March, 2015. The following day, Saturday 7th, March 2015, men of Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police, Vigilante Service among other uniform men and one land agent called, Romeo, with his men fully armed on the order of the ministry invaded the land.
