TRIBULATIONS OF A COUNTRY

Tribulations of a country,
Blessed with milk and honey,
A country with beautiful cultures,
Country with diverse ethnic groups.

A country with verse land,
With enormous natural resources
That only one of it,
Is enough to make her rich.

A country that's affluent
Her richness is so enough,
That if shared amongst her citizens
They will all have more than enough
To take care of all of them
To enable them live a prosperous life.

Tribulations of a country,
A country with so much richness,
Yet poverty beds with her
Because majority of her citizen
live in abject suffering
And die in penury.

Tribulations of a country
Where only few swallow the riches,
Those few are the political tycoons,
The masses are in destitute.

Tribulations of a country,
Where the masses keep crying everyday for help
To be saved from the hands of hunger and sufferings
For their beloved state gets worse
With each passing day.

Tribulations of a country,
Where the leaders have
Selfishness and self centeredness as their watchword
Who loot money without check
They wine and dine with their kinships
And leave the majority in hardship.

Tribulations of a country,
Where the leaders appear like saints,
But they are nothing but enemy of the state
Who think of no one but themselves
As better than those they rule.

Tribulations of a country,
Where the lives of masses are worthless,
Compared to that of ants
That's how they are treated
In a country blessed with so much value.

Tribulations of a country,
Hit with several attacks
By group of insurgents
Who has sworn allegiance
To destroy the holistic picture of the country

Innocents souls die en mass
And yet, there's no reasonable efforts
Made by the leader
Except making continuous vows to curb it,
Whenever the deed is done.

Tribulations of a country
Where many have been displaced
And they have become homeless
While some have turn to refugees
Right on their father's land.

Many children have become orphans
Several women turned widows
Who lost their loved ones
To the killings by the insurgents.

The military is inferior
And subjected to the mercy of the terrorist
In the display of their expertise,
In the showcase of arm and ammunitions.

Tribulations of a country
Characterized with bad leaders
And the followers are non the better

Tribulations of a country
Where the youths are jobless
The leaders of tomorrow
The productive population
Gets lost in the crowd
And become nuisance.

The captain of the country-ship
Shows no concern for them
Not even catered for
Abandoned to wander the city
Looking for the ruins discarded by the captain.

Tribulations of a country,
Where the leaders are corrupt
And adorned with a lot of vices
Ranging from embezzlement, bribe, immorality
Injustice at the brightest.

A country where vying for political post
Is only for highest bidder
Those who know how to manipulate things
Even if he has nothing to offer

So long as he has enough to spend
He will be imposed against the wish
Of those he wants to rule
For their opinion is of no use.

Tribulations of a country,
Where the electorate sell their rights
They trade their future
With stomach infrastructure.

They care not of candidate's antecedent
Nor about his/her manifesto
All they care for is to get settlement
That will feed them
A day or maximum two and
Live through the pains
for the next four years or forever years.

Tribulations of a country,
Where the electioneering process is costly
That an ordinary man dare not go near
Because the price he can't afford to pay
Everything has been monetized.

The political class is desperate
They do and undo
They turned political affairs to do or die
By killing whoever stand in their way
And use them as an elevator
To get to where they desire.

Tribulations of a country,
Where her citizen has learnt by crook how to endure hardship
They live everyday in hope for the best
But they fold their arms without efforts
On how to get the best of their land.

Tribulations of a country,
Where religious leaders have lost their dignity
They desist from saying the truth
For the corrupt leaders fatten their pockets.

As they dine and wine together,
Accept them in their congregations
And praise them like gods
So they will not cease from coming to them.

Tribulations of a country,
Where the government has turned to a National cake
Everyone want to take his/ her share
Forgetting that it is meant for all citizen
Not for the greedy few.

Tribulations of a country,
Blessed with massive natural resources
But lacks good managers
For the benefit of her citizens.

Tribulations of a country,
Where the standard of education is geometrically declining
Many public schools
Have been dilapidated
As resources allocated for education
Have been siphoned by the caretakers of the country.

The leaders seem not to care
Because their wards attend private schools
Either at home or abroad
As the public schools are perceived low quality.
The state of education is declining at an alarming rate.
The future of the country is cloudy.

Tribulations of a country,
Where basic social amenities are lacked,
Despite the riches,
She cannot boast of portable water,
Stable electricity she does not enjoy,
Basic health care they lack,
The roads are nothing but death traps.

Tribulations of a country,
Where people's judgement have been clouded
With ethnicity, tribalism and religion bigotry,
So long as the said person has something in common with him/her,
That makes him a good man.
No matter what he does
Even if he's worse than Pharaoh
To them he's a saint and always anointed.

Who will save this country,
Who will emancipate her from this sufferings,
If not herself?
Who is she?
She is YOU and I.
Let's make that change!
Let's be that change!
Arise Nigeria!!!!
