The Central Bank of Nigeria has threatened to go after schools and landlords in Nigeria that demand fees and rents in dollars. Rising from its Monetary Policy Committee meeting in Abuja yesterday March 24th, the CBN maintained that the only currency officially recognized for business in Nigeria is the Naira.
“The official currency for doing business in Nigeria remains the Naira. Collecting rents or school fees in dollars in Nigeria is illegal. We like to advice those involved in these practices to desist from them, because CBN would very soon begin to go after them,” Mr. Emefiele warned.

Great...when a lease agreement for rent on Tenancy is signed as per $'s, at the point of payment, the Tenant has a choice to pay in Naira in Landlord's bank. If that is the case, I don't see any problems as there is usually exchange rate agreement between both parties.

Very good. The same peopke shouting that naira is dying are the same people killing the naira. How do they expect naira to appreciate when they don't value it in their day to day local transaction, preferring the dollar? We need to increase our demand for the naira and a reduction of demand in dollar. Nice one Emefielle. All local transaction should be in the Naira.

Oga no local financial transaction should be done in $$$$. They should go to Bureau de Change or the Bank to Buy Naira. Let's help our economy. Let's help the CBN's Monetary policy

Poor economic policies of Jonathan is causing pains and suffering. Can't CBN see politicians socking dollars here and there too.

In Fr. Mbaka's voice - Jonathan touched the Naira, it went from goodluck to badluck.

The zoologist must go!

The same CBN was asleep all the while when GEJ was sharing dollars and pounds in the whole of SW.
They have now woken to their responsibilities. This country sure amused.
