A Teenage Nigerian Entrepreneur Needs Your Help. by Sundayme(m): 6:08pm On Mar 25, 2015
Good day all. My name is Sunday. Am a 19 year old aspiring entrepreneur (i will be twenty by april). By God's Help, i intend establishing my business before going to the university (i intend writing jamb next year, and intend studying law). I want to begin importing customers ready products (mermory cards, tablets, and some other house hold products). I need money to start, and if you will help me, then it could be in two forms.
1. Either helping with money.
2. Or, helping me get a job with my ssce certificate. I stay around ojo alaba, lagos. One of the reasons why we do hear about many young successful white entreprenueurs is because of the supports they get. We young blacks also need that. Thanks.

Yes you are right entrepreneurs are successful because of support. Why importing business though? So many people are doing that already and the margins are poor. Come up with a better idea and we can talk then. If it's something good, i'll give you 50,000 naira to start.

Thanks sir. Actually, i'm facing certain particular products that are doing well around my environment- which I'm already prepared for.

What i want to first start with is micro cards (memory cards) 2gb. I live somewhere close to Ojo Alaba International Market, where such things are doing fine. There are many people selling such, if i am supplying it to them at a lesser price, i will become their customer.

This is how i want to get it. If i'm buying 500 pieces, the supplier have agreed to sell at the rate of 0.35 USD for me. Meaning

Per piece= 0.35 usd
500 pieces= 175 usd.
175 usd x 199 (present exchange rate)= #34, 825.

#34, 825 + #995 (agent's service cost) = #35, 820.

Now, retailers sell one for 450, 500, 600 naira. Meaning, i can make wholesalers and retailers buy from me at the rate of 200 naira. If i sell for 200 naira.

200 x 500= #100,000.
Profit= 100,000 - 35,820= #64, 180.

If i'm buying 1,000 pieces, the seller agree to sell at the rate of 0.30 USD. Thus,

1000 pieces = 300 USD. Which is #59, 700 (with the current exchange rate).

Cost price= #59, 700+ #995 (agent's service cost)= #60,695.

Profit=
200 naira x 1,000= 200,000.
#200,000 - #60,695 = #139, 305.

So, if By God's Help, i was able to do repeat that four times in a month, it will be 139, 305 x 4.

I will feel very grateful if you can support me sir. Thanks.

Dear Nigerians,

It's been over 3years since you got out of NYSC and you have submitted your CV in every company you can think of yet, you still don't have a job.

You probably may think you are cursed and I'm sure some of you already are seeking divine help from God.

Well, let me make you understand something. The business world of today has changed globally. Companies and industries no longer employ a large working force and I am sure you have been reading in the news on a daily basis how companies are retrenching and cutting down staffs even in Nigeria.

The reason for this is simple.....Technology!

Technology has changed everything in the business world. We can now communicate and do business sitting at home. As I right this note, I am lying down on my bed sipping a very cold ice drink with my music channel on.

Technology has made created a new avenue to make wealth.....and I'm not talking about making wealth for someonelse but for YOURSELF!
It has made things simpler.

In Nigeria, there are only two ways to make wealth.
1. You are skilled
2. You are an Entrepreneur.

Do you know that you can start an online home delivery service of Cooking Gas?

Well, if you think the idea is awesome, continue to read. If it's not to you, pls exit page right now.......

My research team has conducted a feasibility study on the idea and we have found out something very amazing about the idea.
1. Do you know that people prefer to order for gas than to go buy themselves? Research conducted shows that 7 out of 10 cooking gas customers would rather order for gas delivered to their doorstep than go buy themselves.
2. Do you know that there are over 30million users of Gas in Nigeria and the demand is growing rapidly as more person switch from kerosene to gas?
3. Do you know that kerosene subsidy would be removed this year thereby making it more unaffordable than gas?

The idea is so feasible to a point that if implemented with a good marketing strategy and brand job, you are certainly going to become a market leader in the oil and gas industry.

As we speak, road side retailers purchase gas from the refilling plant at N1800-1900 and sell to customers for
N2900-3200...........isn't this such a very profitable business? with over N1000 as profit per 12.5kg cylinder.

Each cylinder sold, a profit of more than N1000 made....wow!

Now imagine if you did deliver this cylinders directly to customers home at N3500 using an Online platform. Just same business model as Jumia and Konga. You could even add delivery of kitchen hardware.

Now, my research team and I have prepared a professional business plan report on this project for you.(No need to start cracking your head on how to write a professional business plan).

The document also contains a 3years financial report and a viability analysis of the idea. The report is exactly what you need to submit if seeking for a loan or investors. This document is more of a guideline to run, manage and grow your business successfully.

Excerpts from the feasibility study report/business plan.
=============================================

Undoubtedly a vast investment potential exists in the domestic liquefied petroleum gas filling sub-sector of the Oil & Gas Industry in Nigeria. A large proportion of the middle and upper socio-economic class of people depend on gas for cooking purposes. So are industries, government establishments, hotels, hospitals, restaurants, bakeries e.t.c

A statistic for the country some years ago showed that a mere 5% of the consumption potentials of LPG were attained. It is therefore evident that we have a long way to saturate the Nigeria LPG Market if it were to be fully developed because if a domestic consumer is sure of getting LPG when and where he needs it at the right price, he would most willingly convert from firewood, coal or kerosene to LPG.

With huge gas reserves of 185 trillion cubic feet and the Nigerian government's strong commitment to developing the gas industry through the Gas Master Plan, there are a lot of emerging opportunities for investors in the sub- sector. With less than one kilogram me per capita consumption, Nigeria ranks among the lowest liquefied petroleum gas consuming states in Africa despite its huge gas resources.

Today, Nigeria consumes about 250, 000MT per annum and we have about 230 LPG plants and 7,000 retailing outlets (roadside shops) . If we can move the consumption level up to 750,000MT per annum, we expect to have about 250 LPG plants and 74,970 retailing outlets.”   More succinctly, a captive market of over 165 million people makes investment in LPG bottling plant viable since one of the challenges the Federal Government as well as LPG operators are forced to grapple with is how to popularize the use of cooking gas in Nigeria.

Following the unprecedented demand for LPG in Nigeria and attendant scarcity of the product which has resulted in sharp and arbitrary price increases, the distribution of gas products has been deregulated. Consequently, private individuals and firms can now set up LPG plants.

The company would supply about 70 cylinder of 12.5 kg weight per day through personalized cylinder pick-up and delivery services to our client's doorstep with our vehicles.   The required startup capital estimate of the business is N 5,933,000.00 ($40, 000) and it would be funded either by Equity or 100% loan.  The loan would be used to finance our purchase on installation of the production plant and the working capital. We expect to generate a net profit after tax of N 3,359,730.42 ($19, 763), N 3,627,832.26($21, 340) and N 3,986,509.08($23, 450) in the first, second and third year with the repayment plan of three {3} years with moratorium period of three {3} months. The assumed interest rate for the loan is 25%.

Price: N40, 000

It's not that simple, if it were others will be doing it. Look more into it and tell me the loop holes in your plan and how you plan to plug them. I've set aside the 50k, you'll get it when you can convince me of a more thought out business opportunity.

Thanks.

Before talking about the loopholes, let me first talk about your first statement (i.e if it is simple, others will be doing it). Regarding that, it boils down to 'KNOWLEDGE'. I will explain with three points

1. There are many opportunities in Nigeria which are so lucrative, but not everyone are doing them (not everyone even know about them).

2. From my observations, it seem many small-scale importers are after 'high-products (i.e products they can make thousands of naira from buy selling just one of them), thereby, ignoring other products which seem to be 'small'

3. Many of our semi-literate business people still think importation is for the big men in the society.

Having said that, let me talk about some loop-holes in the business.

DEALING WITH SCAMMERS- As we all know, there are many scammers on Chinese sites like alibaba and others, so one is liable to fall into one.
How I Will Deal With This

1. I've conducted my own little research/observation on the supplier, and i know he is real.
2. I intend paying paying for the services of a procuring chinese agent (chrisvicmall), with that, it will be nearly impossible to get scammed.

BUYING SUBSTANDARDS MICRO CARDS- Many micro cards are bad, especially those that don't have a brand.
How I Intend Dealing With This
1. I intend buying a known brand called Kingston micro cards.

MANY RETAILERS- There are already many retailers selling this. Some own shops, kiosks, even whellbarows.

How I Intend Dealing With This
1. Selling it directly to retailers at wholesale cheaper price. Since they sell at 450, 500 naira, they might be buying from wholesalers at rate of 300 naira. I will gain more customers selling selling to them at a rate of like 200 naira.

SELLING TO WHOLESALERS- I intend being a supplier to wholesalers, but they already have their own suppliers (probably middlemen who buy directly from the big importers).
How I Intend Dealing With This
1. Apart from luring them with a low price, i've also met some people who can connect me with this wholesalers.

Those are the loop-holes i think i know now. When i've indulged in the business, anyother loop-holes will become known firsthandedly.

I will be grateful if you will support me sir. Thanks.

I must really commend you for at least reading the young man's post. What young people face is support and encouragement. Am 24, and plans to publish Teenagers Newspaper. The market is large and viable. Apart from having a print medium, we can also have an online medium. What do you think?

How about you go get pre-orders from these wholesalers first before importing it. Get a commitment in writing of how much they will buy. Look up how to write a business plan and write a formal one. Get back to me with the above within 3 weeks. I'll consider some more then.

Sunday, i am most impressed at your business acumen at this age. it shows that our young folks are really enterprising. i ventured into the business world when i was just 18 and i started with a game center. though it was in collaboration with a barbing saloon. i had to stop because the barber was irresponsible, always cheating and i had to come back home for my IT. i really learnt a great deal from that venture.
I encourage u to do ur best in whatever u intend venturing into.
i have 2years practical experience in importation, so i want to give you some advice, especially in the area u want to delve into.
it is extremely difficult to see a honest Chinese memory card sellers. most if them sell upgraded memorycards (u should know what i mean). however, if u feel u trust this seller well enough, buy a few quantities from him, telling him you want to test the quality of his products with a promise to come back and buy large quantities. as for your shipping agent, i beg u in the name if God, dont ever use Chrisvicmall. they will frustrate u. they delay soo much in shipping and they have a bad communication process. i do not know of any reliable 3rd party shipping agent but i suggest u do a little research here on nairsland. tbis is the more reason why u need to start small.
also, 2gig memory cards are no more in vogue. people want larger spaced mcards. why not consider as from 8gig upwards?
1k001, Godbless u for your intention to help this young lad. i pray your pocket never runs dry

But from your own experience in this, how much do you use in buying the cards? How do you sell them? How much do you sell them?

Regarding the shipping coy, after reading reviews from many of them, i think i can still use chrisvicmall. Regarding their comunication, i have being communicating with them easily through their facebook page.
