President Goodluck Jonathan observed a low-key Palm Sunday service at the Aso Rock Villa Chapel with very few worshippers.

Jonathan's wife, Patience and mother, Madam Eunice, were absent at the service; while those in attendance occupied only the first three roles on both sides.
Before now, the Chapel used to be filled beyond capacity whenever Jonathan was worshipping there.
Those who worshipped with the president included the chairman of the Federal Civil service Commission, Joan Ayo and the Executive Secretary of the National Christian Pilgrims Commission, John-Kennedy Opara.

‎The guest minister at the service Rev. William Okoye who spoke on the topic "Victory Rests with the Lord", asked the president to attribute his victory to God alone, if re-elected, adding that he must also review his past actions and learn from his (Jonathan's) past mistakes.

Okoye said though the president had done well in the past, he (Jonathan) must admit that he had made mistakes and should repackage his mistakes to "launch out in full force".
"If God gives us another opportunity, there are three things we must do. One, we must acknowledge God as our source of victory and helper. Two, review all you've done in the past, learn from past mistakes. You've done well, but you must admit you've made mistakes. Thirdly, repackage the mistakes you've made so that you can launch out in full force. Every leader in public office is in a position of trust. We must account for the position we've been given and do things right", he admonished.

According to the cleric, since Nigerians have played their part by voting, the rest is now in God's hands.
He also told the congregation that "It's God that puts people in authority and we've done all we've to do. We've to look to Him and I believe we're going to sing a new thing".

Okoye, who is the founding general overseer of the All Christians Fellowship Mission Abuja, said the president had done his best to move Nigeria forward, adding that those accusing him of poor performance were either being mischievous or economical with the truth.
The cleric said he was happy that Jonathan had recently said he was not desperate to serve. ‎
"Thank God we've a president who wants to serve and not engage in do-or-die politics. Some of us were here during the third term agenda and I kicked against it from this alter.‎ As a Villa chaplain under Obasanjo, ‎the third term agenda was not originally his idea‎, hence he rejected it when it was suggested. But those behind it repackaged and presented it to him and he bought it. When ‎he told me, I kicked against it, but before you knew it, he was side-lining me. And so, I was forced to use the pulpit to tell him God was not with him on this matter because the idea was not God's and that was why the idea failed.
"Thank God we've a president that says I want to serve, but I'm not desperate. So, it is not a question of do-or-die thing. ‎This election is not a do-or-die. If we lose, we'll go and use the experience to serve humanity. So, there is nothing to worry about. I know with what this government has done, if given opportunity in another four years, Nigeria would be better. ‎That's why we're not to be proud because God resists the proud".

In his remarks, ‎the chaplain of the Aso Villa, Venerable Obioma Onwuzurumba ‎expressed delight that the polls were conducted despite allegations that Jonathan wanted to hold on to power.
He said: "It was said the president won't allow elections to hold because he wanted to hold on to power, but it held. A friend of mind sent me a text that God has chosen who will govern before the foundation of the world and we just vote to authenticate that person.
