The president of Nestoil Group, Dr Ernest Azudialu yesterday in Ihiala, Anambra State narrowly escaped death in the hands of some political thugs allegedly led by some PDP chieftains.

Azudialu’s bullet proof Mercedes Benz G Wagon was reportedly sprayed with bullets. When the bullets failed to penetrate the enamoured  vehicle, the thugs sprayed the tyres with bullets.

Trouble was said to have begun when the party chieftains came to the town and attempted to rig the House of Representatives election in favour of Emeka Anohu, brother of Chinelo Amaze but were resisted by Azudialu who insisted that the will of the people on who represents them must be allowed to prevail.

According to an eyewitness, after a peaceful election in the area, INEC officials started collation of the results. Unable to conclude the process Saturday night, they resumed Sunday morning at the local government headquarters.

He said, “But surprisingly,  the party chieftains stormed the venue where Azudialu, an Okija indigene was already present to witness the counting process. When it became obvious the PDP candidate was loosing, the party chieftains moved in and started altering the results in favour of Anohu, Azudialu objected and in the process the party chieftains then physically assaulted him for daring to object to their alterations of the result, slapping him in quick succession.”
