Congratulations to the People's General for the remarkable victory.
In my own Opinion, PDP lost because of the following;
1. Splitting of the party. The aggrieved governors pulled more than 2 million votes for APC. Their grievances should have been settled earlier as even Tukur's state was won by APC.
2. Use of power instead of Brain. Their campaign strategy was more of money and less of sense. Money is good but there are certain things it don't buy. Arthur Eze will attest to this fact.
3. Losing the social media. The vast majority of the teeming population in Nigeria make use of the media. The election was over ever since words like 'clueless' and "daft" were used to describe Jonathan.
4. Playing the opposition instead of making APC work at any pace they (PDP) set, APC became the pace setter for the ruling party.

Jonathan is a gentle man that was ruling a not so gentle country.

CHEERS TO THE PEOPLE'S GENERAL.
your opinions are highly appreciated

President Jonathan lost because he did not address the issues that people have with him, but his opponent General Buhari did that:

- GEJ's wife was said to be disgracing the country with her utterances. She was not given any training to improve her diction & grammar.
- GMB was said to be a hard unsmiling man. He started sharing pictures of himself smiling and showing off his beautiful wife and daughters.

- GEJ was said to be soft on corruption. Yet till the very end, he never convinced Nigerians that he's serious about fighting corruption.
- GMB was accused of wanting to jail everybody. So he said that he will "draw a line" on May 29th and only go after people who remain corrupt.

- GEJ was accused of not caring about the plight of the victims of Boko Haram. Yet he refused to get serious about it until the last 6 weeks.
- GMB was said to be a religious fundamentalist & tribalist. So he merged his party with Tinubu's party and picked a pastor as running mate.

- GEJ recognized that his people were not doing a good job of managing his public image. Yet he never replaced them with better people.
- GMB was said to be an old, frail, sick man. So he went to visit some super doctors in the UK and they serviced his engines superbly.

In short, GEJ didn't listen to the people. He did not address their concerns. We can say that some people misled him or failed him, and we would be right, but a good leader surrounds himself with the right people. A good leader appoints people who can do a good job for him.

One thing that is worth emulating by Presidential candidates is the humble acceptance of defeat by Jonathan.

In my opinion, "PDP" lost the election because almost those people that usually factor their win defected to APC.

Kudos to GEJ for keeping his word concerning the outcome of the election.

@topic, now I feel like voting for GEJ. He is soft in a cute way. But this is Nigeria, you can't fix round pegs in square holes.

Anyway, he is a family man (good-husband-great-father kinda man) not a political tiger. Let him go enjoy some honeymoon with Patience. Someone like him can't even be an SUG president in a school like OAU...let alone the Nation's leader.

Gej's problem started with his first policy and how he managed the consequences of such policy.

All in all he lost due to lack of intelligent input in most of his actions.

GEJ Lost by scoring many own goals and picking unneccesary fights,What did he gain by Fighting Amaechi,OBJ and the likes.
GEJ Lost because he ran a clannish government that excluded the Yorubas the all important swing voters. All we saw were the likes of Clark,Oritsejafor,Asari and co threatening fire and brimstone. The SE also boasted to be the backbone of his administration.
GEJ lost by relying on most OBJ recycled leftovers like Okupe,FFK,Ngozi,Anenih. He never developed his own power base and think thank.
GEJ Lost because many Nigerians never fully forgave him for his handling of the Chibok girls and boko haram issues.
GEJ lost by fighting the press, completely alleniating some of them. He seized some leadership editions and that angered Punch.

GEJ lost for two major reasons;
Insecurity in the north. He allowed the insurgency to fester until it became gangrenous. Unfortunately six weeks weren't enough to make up for six years of terror.
The cesspit called NNPC: Nigerians complained bitterly of the rot in the oil house and the lady at its helm,Deziani. Yet,GEJ refused to budge.
These two failings in my opinion led to the demise of his administration. Hope GMB lives up to his billing as the anti corruption czar.

GEJ lost the election because he created too many unnecessary enemies.
Why on earth will you make the masses your enemy by removing the fuel subsidy on the 1st day of a new year? Couldn't that have waited till a few days later? This is clearly very insensitive of him. We can argue that he was misled by croonies, but he "was" the boss and should have used his senses.

Why on earth will you allow your wife to create enemity between Gov Amaechi and himself. And also the governors that defected to APC. Those powerful people contributed a great deal to PDP's loss (not so much to APC's win)

Why on earth will you trivialise the north? As if they are not humans. Boko Haram killed the northerners in 10000s and even more displaced. Yet he even had the gut to say he under estimated BH. To make matters worse, the same BH that terrorised the people for years was checkmated within just 6 weeks. It was obvious that he didn't consider the people's plight serious until he was sure to lose the election because of it. It even led to the erosion of int'l support for him. Back in 2011, GEJ had the backing of many western nations. But his divisive style of administration led to their tactical withdrawal - Handling of missing chibok girls comes to mind.

Why did he allow his aides to demonise islam - the major religion in a region with more than 50% of the votes. Take it or not, that also played a major role. Sambo tried to do some damage control by accusing PYO of having 5000 churches and that it is the PDP that is the true islamic party. But it was too late.

Why on earth did he take SW forgranted, only to spend most days of the last two weeks trying to appease the SW.

GEJ lost the election because of the many unnecessary enemy he created or allowed his aides/kinsmen/wife to create and he didn't care until the end.

In summary, he lost because he was just not a president material albeit a good person. He just did not look good or do justice in that role.

He lacked everything, stature, communication, power to hire and fire the right people, did not know how to delegate but most of all he just didn't know what was expected of him and relied too much on what power and money can buy him.

-For an example, he gets attacked by FFK left, right & center, instead of listening and doing some serious corrections he silences him by buying him over to insult his opponents. To him thats problem solved, forgetting that he could never ever be able to buy every critic out there.

He just lacked the brains (vision) and resolve for the task at hand. He confused the position as an act of luck not a job and service that he had to earn by fulfilling his promises to his citizens.
Finido!

2013 is not 'the last 6 weeks' by any calendar.

2013 was when Borno elders asked Jonathan to withdraw our soldiers fighting Boko Haram and he said on condition they stop the insurgents immediately. It was during his visit to Borno. APC responded that he 'talked down' on the people rather than gently seek their support.

Three months later in same 2013, Buhari ACCUSED our soldiers of killing the terrorists and burning their houses instead of granting them amnesty. He has never withdrawn the accusation.

Those are FACTS that we have allowed ourselves to forget thanks to the sleek APC propaganda machine and the ineffective PDP communication.

The same distortion applies to corruption.

I hope for the best in my country despite knowing the BASIS for Buhari's electoral success is deeply flawed.

Sign agreement on no more killings, I will withdraw JTF, Jonathan to Borno elders
March 09, 2013

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan yesterday in Maiduguri, accused Borno State Elders of playing to the gallary over the activities of Boko Haram Islamic sect insurgency in the state, describing the situation as unfortunate.

Jonathan spoke during an interactive session with Borno State stakeholders at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Government House Maiduguri, in continuation of his two- day working visit to Borno and Yobe States, the epicentres of Boko Haram.

He was responding to requests by the Elders for the Federal Government to grant amnesty to the sect members as well as withdraw the military Joint Task Force, JTF from Maiduguri and other areas in the state during the second day of his working visit to Borno State..

President Jonathan lamented that none of the elders in the state had publicly condemned the killings and bombings being carried out by the sect members and advised them to put their ‘’house in order,’’ by talking to their children who had been causing havoc in the country to drop their arms against the country.

Buhari faults crackdown on Boko Haram
JUNE 3, 2013

Presidential candidate for the Congress for Progressive Change in the 2011 Presidential election, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has frowned on the emergency rule in parts of the North. He alleged that innocent civilians were being killed in the states.

Buhari speaking during a Liberty FM Hausa Service Programme, Guest of the Week, on Sunday in Kaduna said that Boko Haram members were being killed and their houses demolished unlike the “special treatment” given to the Niger Delta militants by the Federal Government.
