Hundreds of youths sympathetic to the Peoples Democratic Party protested in Nasarawa State on Tuesday against some results of the National Assembly elections announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission in the state.

The youths protested against the declaration of Lafia/Obi federal constituency inconclusive by INEC.

The returning officer in-charge of the constituency election, Mr. Ishaleku David, had on Monday announced that the election conducted for the constituency was inconclusive.

During the protest, senior legislative aide to Joseph Kigbu, the member representing the federal constituency, Musa Magaji, maintained that the PDP followers found it strange that the same returning officer, who announced the result in the presence of the agents of all political parties and security agencies, later went to the press to announce that the election was inconclusive.

“After the collation of the results of the Lafia/Obi federal constituency, the candidate of the PDP, Dr. Joseph Kigbu scored 69,430 votes against his opponent of the APC who scored only 50,298 votes.

“The result shows that Kigbu won the election with a margin of over 19, 00 votes,” Magaji said.

He urged INEC to declare Kigbu as the winner of the election in the interest of fairness, peace, unity and development.

Meanwhile, youths under the aegis of Nasarawa State Youths Network said they would continue to protest against INEC, for its “anti-democratic endorsement of illegality being foisted on people of Nasarawa South Senatorial District.”

The leader of the group, Mr. Ibrahim Dallah, said the information they had showed that the Nasarawa State REC had compromised the result of the Nasarawa South Senatorial District.

He said, “Senator Suleiman Adokwe won the election in the Nasarawa South Senatorial District. It was therefore with rude shock that we received the news that one Salihu Egyegbola has been declared as the winner.

“This is unacceptable and it is in a bid to prevent the rapid decline of our democracy that we resolve to stand for the truth.

“We are calling on the authorities concerned to intervene before it gets out of hand.

“Senator Adokwe has clearly won the election in Nasarawa South Senatorial District.”

Efforts by PUNCH Metro to get the Nasarawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Abdullahi Danyaya, for comment on the allegations proved abortive as calls to his phone rang out.

Also, text messages sent to the phone were not replied.

Orubebe is busy apologising instead of protesting. This is why i like some northerners, they have courage.
If it was huhari that lost nigeria would be burning now. Here it seems we in the delta have just accepted it.
