The PDP was shocked by reports from the South West and North central states in the just concluded presidential elections. It quickly became clear to them when Ekiti result was released and APC managed to garner over 40% of the votes. It was an indication of the South West votes - no big win for PDP. Their fear was later confirmed when Ondo state , the other PDP state voted in the majority for APC. Kogi and Kwara states that had never voted for Buhari followed and reports from the North West almost sealed Jonathan's fate and as the BBC reported the PDP HQ in Abuja "was dead"

The question is whether those left in the PDP can form a viable opposition. It is almost certain that Jonathan may stay away from partisan politics after May 29, 2015 creating a power vacuum in the PDP. The big problem for the PDP will be finding a national leader. Who can be a Bola Tinubu for the PDP? Obasanjo is reported to have torn his PDP membership card and embraced the APC following strained relationship between him and Jonathan. Will Kashamu, the alleged drug baron lead PDP? It's not likely. Infact it is feared a Buhari administration may hand him over to the US government. Atiku too is in the APC who could have been a potential leader. IBB seems to have towed Obasanjo's part by playing an elderstatesman role. Edwin Clark, though largely respected across the South of Nigeria is not likely to pull any weight in the north. Ayo Fayose though very outspoken is not a likely candiddate due to his lack of manners ( leadership skills) and the fact that he may even not finish his term as Ekiti state governor if the Supreme court decides his case in April. David Mark of Benue state seem to be the most suitable person to lead the PDP and if he ever becomes PDP leader he has a lot of work to do.

A major challenge for the PDP is the loyalty of her members. Many Nigerian politicans are in politics to have food on their table and it may be the case that before May 29, 2015 a large number of current PDP members may decamp to the APC. If the PDP does not handle the loss of the presidency wisely it may become the demise of the party called PDP.

PDP is dead. Most of it's members are selfish megalomaniacs without any focus.

They will surely do but my doubt is if APC will be ready to accept criticisms and be democratic enough the way PDP did. God bless Nigeria.

Without trying to be condescending, I can confidently say that nobody in PDP can lead any opposition movement.

PDP as a group only thrives where it has access to power. Their bigwigs behave like children born into royalty who never have to fight any battles to survive. This was so evident in the way they were begging and pleading with OBJ to come lead their campaigns despite his open disdain for them. Patience Jonathan inspite of her flaws would do better at mobilisation of the commoners than gej, sambo, mark, wike (who can only mobilise thugs) etc.

The only fear I had about an APC victory is slowly being realised.......the death of opposition politics in Nigeria because those gifted in that game have now being propelled to the centre cry

But GMB and APC know better than to take us for granted.....because the raw materials to start another viable opposition will be created from the usual suspects cool
