Dear All,

I want you to advice a close of friend of mine that was sacked 2 month after joining. He was cajoled to resign from his stable job in January this year after the company promise him a lot of welfare packages. I nfact the company pay his formal company in lieu of notice penalty. However he was retrenched 2 month later. The only reason that was given is that the company is doing financial restructuring due to naira devaluation and he was asked to go even without any pay. Is it possible to take any legal action?. The company is a Lebanese company

Dat is the issue.... the guy has been asking them to at least put the reason in his letter....but they refuse, just said service no longer required

This is an abuse of labour. I know there are some special courts that look into such matter. Let him ask around. It is not expensive. It will be good if ur friend can provide evidence of how the whole process took place e.g text message, recorded phone calls, letter of job offer etc. The court will take it up from there - there must be compensation from the coy. Knowing the reason he was laid off work would not change anything. Fight for ur right if u can.
